This application simplifies the quick navigation of your registry, but it lacks a handy search feature. The minimal interface features a single pull-down box and a text box. Meanwhile Abraham recalls the fate of his wife Annie and their two kids and how he met Eugene. Slabtown Beth awakes in a hospital and she. Beth awakes in a hospital and she finds that she is in Atlanta.

She learns that she was found alone on the road and rescued by the despicable Officer Gorman that brought her to hospital ruled by the tough Officer Dawn. Now she is under the care of Dr. Steven Edwards with a broken wrist and bruises. Beth befriends the servant Noah and discovers that everything has a price in the place. When Noah discloses that he intends to flee from the place, Beth offers to go with him. Will they succeed in their intent?

When Rick and his friends leave the church to chase Gareth and his gang, the cannibals break in the church and the small group that stays there is threatened. The fact there's no dust on the jars and cans they find suggests that someone lives there. They make themselves comfortable but their feelings of safety also make them vulnerable. When they're attacked by a horde of walkers, they are separated. Sasha, Bob and Maggie continue along the railroad tracks headed for what they hope will be a safe haven.

Sasha isn't so sure but realizing that her friends don't believe in her quest, she sets off on her own determined to find Glenn. Claimed Michonne has reunited with Carl and. Michonne has reunited with Carl and Rick. While she and Carl head off to find supplies while Rick stays behind, still recovering from his wounds. While on their trip, Carl learns that Michonne has a child, a boy named Andre. Back at the house, Rick awakens to find a group of armed men searching the place and has to find a way out.

Glen meanwhile awakens to find himself in the back of a truck and learns from Tara that they passed the prison bus about 3 hours ago. Their new traveling companions tell them that they're on an urgent - and secret - mission and headed to Washington D.C. Glenn won't have it and insists on heading back to the buss to see if Maggie is there.

He smiles vaguely at the video games before starting the process of barricading the door. He uses a TV cord to tie a complicated knot. 'Shane taught me,' Carl says to his dad.

'Remember him?' It's a challenge and Rick doesn't back down.

'You have something else to say to me?' Dad shoots back. The two then settle into an uneasy truce while preparing to bed down. We see Michonne in a fancy apartment, presumably in better days. She good-naturally argues over an art exhibit with her boyfriend and his friend before serving them a cheese plate and scooping up a very young child into her arms. Suddenly, the men's arms are gone. The child is gone.

Michonne SCREAMS. And wakes up. She is inside a car. Outside are her two new and armless walker pets. The next morning Carl awakens and begrudgingly makes his dad a bowl of cereal.

He returns to find Rick completely unresponsive. Carl begins to yell when the barricaded door begins to thump and bang. Carl circles around the back of the house and discovers two walkers clawing at the door.

Come and get it!' Carl rather cockily leads the walkers away from the house and into the woods, but is ambushed by another walker. Flat on his back, Carl fires multiple shots and the walkers fall dead (again) in a heap on top of him. He finally frees himself from the nasty scrum and vomits.

'I win,' he declares. Carl then heads back inside and stands over his unconscious father. 'I don't need you anymore!'

The boy rages at Rick. Carl lists the names of the dead -- including Judith and Lori -- accusing his father of hiding behind the prison garden as The Governor made his plans.

'I'd be fine if you died,' Carl concludes. Rick doesn't stir. So Carl leaves.

Down the tree-lined street he finds another nice home and forces his way inside in search of goods. He finds a fully stocked kitchen. Upstairs, Carl continues his search -- and a snarling walker bursts into the hallway. The boy fires twice, but misses in his haste. He retreats into a bedroom and tries to open the window to escape. The walker bursts through the door.

Carl scrambles just out of biting range, turning around and heading back to the hallway. He slams the door behind him trapping the walker inside. Again, Carl wins. Proud of himself, he sits on the roof of the house and eats the big can of pudding.

Michonne, meanwhile, walks through the woods with her 'pets.' Their condition shields her from other walkers who stumble by -- as if in a loosely aligned herd -- nearby.

Michonne then notices a walker that looks uncomfortably like her. After several minutes of looking at her doppleganger, Michonne loses it and begins hacking, starting with her lookalike. Moments later, all are dead. Michonne gasps at the center of the body-strewn circle. It's just not her day.

It's night and Carl is resting near the couch where his dad lies. Suddenly, Rick's hand jerks. Is he a walker now? Carl lifts his gun and begins to weep.

'I can't,' Carl says. He lets his gun fall.

He can't shoot Rick. Gasps Rick, who is alive after all.

Carl cradles his father's head before Rick passes out again. 'I'm scared,' Carl cries. 'I'm scared.'

His bravado all gone for the moment, Carl cries like a kid. The next morning, Michonne comes across the dead body in the bar. She begins to cry again and starts talking to Mike, her former lover. She misses him. She misses their old life. Outside, Michonne lops the head off a single walker and walks on.

Carl and Rick then have a heart-to-heart. Rick admits that he clung to the thought that he could make everything normal again -- for Judith and Carl. 'You, you're a man, Carl,' Rick tells his son. 'And I'm sorry.'

Says Carl: 'You don't need to be.' Suddenly, there is a knock on the door.

Carl draws his gun. Rick looks through the peephole and begins to laugh. 'It's for you,' he says. Outside, Michonne smiles. Too Far Gone The Governor tries to convince his. The Governor tries to convince his new flock to invade the prison, explaining that the people inside this supposed paradise destroyed the last haven he lived in with Martinez.

And killed his daughter. 'We can have it,' the Governor says. 'We don't need to kill anyone. But we need to be prepared.'

Turns out the Governor has already taken two hostages from the prison: Hershel and Michonne. All agree with the Governor, though Lilly isn't totally convinced. The Governor professes his love for the woman and her daughter -- and pledges to keep them alive no matter what. Later, the Governor offers his two prisoners food.

Hershel demands an explanation. 'I'm going to kill you,' Michonne promises. Hershel is more diplomatic, proposing that the two groups find a way to live together.

The Governor refuses that option, but says he is going to try hard not to hurt anyone. At the prison, Glenn is finally recovering from his bout with the super-flu. He shares some fond memories with Maggie as well as a kiss. Meanwhile, Daryl is hearing the news about Carol -- and he isn't happy.

'She's going to be alright,' Rick says. 'She has guns, a car and supplies.' Rick also explains that Carol admitted to killing two of their own and wasn't at all sorry for it. According to Daryl, that doesn't sound like Carol at all. Not the Carol he knew.

Elsewhere, Sascha thanks Bob for saving her life, though the tortured Bob doesn't want to be labeled a hero. Rick and Daryl go to see Tyreese, but the news about Carol will have to wait. Tyreese has found what appears to be a vivisected rat on a board.

Tyreese believes a 'psychopath' is living within the prison walls. 'We've got to find him, Rick,' he says. 'And I'm not going to sleep until we do.' Suddenly, there is a BANG. Rick runs outside to see the Governor and all his people assembled outside the fence. 'We need to talk,' says the Governor, who displays Hershel and Michonne.

Rick says he no longer makes the group's decisions. The Governor doesn't care. He wants to discuss matters with Rick -- and Rick only. So Rick walks to the fence to hear the Governor's proposal. Basically, Rick and his people clear out of the prison or Hershel and Michonne die. Rick explains that there are children inside. 'I have a tank and i'm letting you walk away from here,' an unmoved Governor says.

'What else is there to talk about?' Daryl, meanwhile, hands out weapons to a select number of survivors in the prison.

It might be war. Back at the river bank, Lilly is all alone with Meagan. She is panicked to see a walker trying to cross the river, but the zombie is eventually washed away. She sighs in deep relief.

And then hears Meagan screaming. A different walker, one likely buried in a flash flood some time ago, emerges from the mud and bites Meagan on the arm. Now it is Lilly's turn to scream. Back at the prison, the children are running to the bus, carrying little Judith, per the long-prearranged plan, but Lizzie insists that they find guns -- like Carol told them to do. Rick, in the meantime, proposes living in the prison together. He then explains that he won't give up the prison to the Governor.

He'd rather fight, which would bring more walkers. In other words, they share the prison or nobody gets it. 'We can still come back,' Rick pleads.

'We can still come back. We can change.'

And with that impassioned speech, the Governor takes out Michonne's katana blade and slices Hershel in the neck. Maggie and Beth scream. Gunfire erupts. As the firing continues, the Governor turns around to find that Lilly has arrived carrying Meagan's body. The Governor doesn't hesitate.

He takes his gun out and shoots Meagan before she can turn. He then struts to the front line and tells Mitch to move in with the tank. 'Kill them all,' the Governor growls. The tank begins blowing holes in the walls of the prison as the Governor's people use the rolling behemoth as cover and advance closer and closer to the prison yard. The Governor lags behind and Rick jumps out from behind an overturned truck and tackles him. The two begin to exchange haymakers.

Elsewhere, survivors are loaded onto the bus, which takes off without Tyreese, Maggie, Ben and others. Beth, in the meantime, is missing. Tyreese is about to be gunned down by Alicia when Lizzie and Mika appear with weapons.

They blow a hole in Alicia's head. The Governor, meanwhile, has the upper-hand on Rick and is about to choke the life out of him when a katana blade bursts forth from his chest.

Michonne holds the blade. The Governor lies on the ground, mortally wounded but not quite dead. Michonne turns and leaves him as Rick runs to find Carl. Daryl has found some grenades and he shoves one in the gun of the tank. Mitch bails out just as the tank explodes.

Then Daryl shoots Mitch in the chest with a crossbow. Rick finds Carl, who blasts walkers to save his dad. Father and son embrace. And then spot Judith's car seat lying nearby.

It is bloody. Out in the prison yard, the Governor is struggling for life.

Lilly approaches. Her hand shakes, but she aims for the Governor's head and fires. As the episode ends, our survivors are scattered. Walkers stream into the flaming and smoking prison. Rick and Carl limp away together into the woods. 'Don't look back,' Rick says. Dead Weight Martinez, backed by a group of armed.

Martinez, backed by a group of armed survivors, lifts little Meagan out of the ditch. He then offers a rope to the Governor.

'You OK, Brian?!' Martinez looks at the Governor in confusion.

Then he understands. Martinez offers to the Governor and his new brood join their group on two conditions: Martinez is in charge and there is no 'dead weight' (i.e. Contribute or be cast out). Later, the Governor, LIlly and Meagan wake up in a leaky trailer home parked next to a military tank.

Apparently, the Governor has agreed to be a good soldier and play house. He goes on with a party of Martinez's men looking for a survivalist thought to have hoarded supplies nearby. They find a body tied to a tree with a sign nailed to it that says 'Liar.' The body is missing a head. Later, they approach a ramshackle house. Outside is another headless body bearing the sign 'Rapist.' Inside, they find the likely perpetrator, who hung a 'Murderer' sign on his own chest before shooting himself in the head.

The dead man clutches a photograph of a woman and child. The group hears banging. The Governor leads the men to the basement toward the sound, which is revealed to be the woman and daughter -- now walkers -- shambling about.

The walker duo attacks and the Governor violently ends both of their 'lives' with his knife. Later, the Governor studies the photograph of the two back when they were alive. Martinez notes that the Governor seems 'different.changed.'

Says the Governor: 'I am.' Says Martinez: 'Good.' Later, the group of survivors eat lunch and drink the dead survivalist's beer. Martinez mentions Woodbury, but the Governor doesn't want to talk about it.

Lilly then mentions that this camp is the first time she has felt safe since the outbreak, which earns her a hard look from the Governor. Later, Martinez, who is rather drunk, hits golf balls off the top of a bus, just like they used to do in Woodbury. He talks about 'sharing the crown' with the Governor and wonders how 'Brian' can risk getting attached to another family that he is only likely to lose.

Martinez squares to strike the ball again -- and the Governor BASHES him in in the head with a club. The Governor then tosses Martinez from the top of the bus, drags him into the nearby ditch, which is crawling with walkers, and feeds him to the undead. At night, the Governor sits on his bed inside his shabby trailer and weeps.

Lilly enters and asks what's wrong. He claims to have had a bad dream. The next morning, Martinez's men pull together the survivors and explain that their leader got drunk and fell into the pit. Everyone is shocked -- even more so when Pete, a former Army man, declares that he will lead until a vote can be pulled together in a few days. It's not long before Pete is asking for help in leading from 'Brian.' On a hunt, the Governor, Pete and hot-headed ex-military man Mitch run across a small camp of people.

Mitch wants to rob them, but Pete refuses. Later, after hunting and killing no more than two or three squirrels, they come across the camp again and find it has been raided -- not by walkers, but by humans. Pete is just sad, but Mitch is angry. 'They took our stuff!'

The Governor goes back to his own trailer and tells Lilly and Meagan to start packing. He's seen enough and it's time to go. 'Things are about to go very wrong here,' the Governor says. 'Do you trust me, Lilly? Then pack your things. We're leaving tonight, OK?' That night, the Governor drives away from camp with Lilly, Meagan, Tara and Tara's new girlfriend, Alicia, in tow.

He slams on the brakes when he finds that the road out of town is blocked by a 'moat' of walkers constructed to keep people out -- or maybe in. The next morning, the Governor calls on Pete.

'We need to talk,' the Governor says. Says Pete: 'About Mitch? I knew this was coming.' The Governor then stabs Pete in the back, killing him. The Governor then knocks on Mitch's door. Holding a gun on Mitch, the Governor explains that Pete is dead. He says that Mitch was right about attacking and robbing the camp the previous day.

He says that Pete was weak because he was too concerned with doing the 'right thing.' 'I'm running things now and I will do anything it takes to protect this camp,' the Governor explains. 'I promise you'll never have to worry if you're doing the right thing or the wrong thing because we will do the only thing.' The story will be that Pete died on a supply run saving the others. 'People love a hero,' the Governor says. And so the Governor takes over the run of the camp. Later, as the Governor and Lilly make nice in the trailer, Meagan is attacked by a walker.

Meagan runs, but trips. She is about to be eaten when the Governor shoots the walker in the head. A terrified Lilly tries to comfort her terrified child, but the Governor just turns and walks away. He knows they need a safer place to make their lives. And where might that place be?

The Governor takes a little ride. To the prison.

Live Bait The Governor sits by a campfire when. The Governor sits by a campfire when a walker approaches. It trips and falls into the fire -- only to be shot by Martinez. The Governor never even budges. Later, he drives into Woodbury and sets it aflame. Much later, now wearing a scraggly beard, he stumbles into a town and discovers two older sisters, a grandfather on an O2 tank and a young girl, Meagan, who resembles the Governor's own dead offspring. The group takes in the Governor, who gives them a false name, but does not allow him to keep his weapon.

Tara, a former cop, is especially suspicious. Later, the grandfather asks the Governor, because he can handle himself around the undead, to head to a nearby apartment in the building and pick up a backgammon set. 'I know you don't understand because you don't have a baby girl of your own, but it might be something that makes my Meagan talk again, the old man says. The Governor goes upstairs and finds the mutilated undead occupant snarling in the bathtub. He snaps the walker's neck. And then discovers a loaded weapon.

Later, the Governor looks at a photo of his former family, folding the picture to hide himself. The next morning, the more sympathetic older sister, Lily, sees the photograph as the Governor sleeps. She gives him a bag of supplies and offers his gun back. 'I have this,' says the Governor, showing her the gun he found upstairs.

He then gives advice to the naive woman, who has been holed up in the apartment since the outbreak. 'You need to shoot them in the brain,' the Governor says.

'That's what kills them.' Lilly then asks the Governor for a favor: go outside to a nearby old folks home and find grandad an O2 tank -- for Meagan, of course. So the Governor heads to the olds folks home, which is filled with infirm walkers in wheelchairs and strapped to beds. Infirm does not mean harmless, The Governor finds more than a half dozen tanks but is soon overrun by walkers. He desperately grabs one, all he can reasonably carry, and gets out. The Governor returns to the apartment and is tended to by Lilly, a nurse in her past life and Meagan's mom. 'She thought you were her dad -- Meagan.

When she saw you on the street,' Lilly explains. Apparently, dad left town long before the apocalypse. Later, the Governor hesitantly explains to Meagan that he lost his eye trying to protect someone he loved very much. 'I'm sorry,' Meagan says. Says the Governor: 'Me, too.' Days, or maybe weeks after that, the Governor is clean shaven and much more himself. He teaches Meagan to play chess and she draws an eyepatch on the king piece -- the 'guy you want to capture.'

Soon, the sisters discover that grandfather is dead. The Governor knows what this means, but tries to let them mourn.

Sure enough, the old man turns into a walker and begins to attack. The Governor takes the O2 tank and bashes in the new walker's brains.

He is dead again. Later, after burying grandad, the Governor returns to the apartment to find Meagan cowering in a corner and, once again, not speaking. That night, the Governor burns the photo of his family. He packs his bags and says goodbye to Lilly. 'No, we're coming with you!' Says Lilly, who announces that they want to find someplace better to live. 'You're stuck with us and that's the way it's going to be.'

The Governor sighs deeply and drops his bags. The next day, they drive away in a perishable food truck once driven by dead grandad. Meagan is still unresponsive. Camping out that night, Lilly cozies up to the Governor and they are soon making out (and more). The next morning, the food truck won't start so the new 'family' walks down the middle of a highway.

Tara trips and twists her ankle. The Governor walks ahead, sensing something. Sure enough, a horde of dozens and dozens of walkers appears around the corner. Meagan runs into the Governor's arms and the group makes a mad dash into the woods with the walkers in pursuit. The Governor and Meagan fall into a ditch with three walkers. The Governor violently kills the walkers in front of the little girl. 'I'm never going to let anything happen to you,' he whispers to Meagan.

'Cross my heart.' The Governor looks up and sees Martinez standing at the top of the ditch.

'Cross my heart,' the Governor whispers again. Internment After leaving Carol behind, Rick. After leaving Carol behind, Rick drives back to the prison. On the seat next to him is the watch that Carol gave him as a kind of parting gift. Inside the prison, Hershel is trying to administer medicine to the very sick survivors.

Hershel and Glenn discover that Mr. Jacobson is dead. Rather than stabbing the dead man in the head right there -- in front of the other sick people, including Lizzie -- Hershel insists that they take the body into a nearby, private room to do they deed. Outside, where Maggie is stabbing walkers in the brain through the chain-link fence, a car pulls up to the gates.

'Where's Carol?' Rick explains that Carol killed Karen and David. 'I couldn't have her here,' Rick explains. Maggie agrees it was the right call, but doesn't know if she could have.

Rick tells her not to doubt herself -- nobody can afford to do that anymore. Hershel visits Dr. S, who is in bad shape.

He warns Hershel that he has to be prepared to lose one patient or he'll lose them all. S refuses treatment because he believes he is too far gone, and shows the old man a shotgun that he brought into quarantine in case all goes to hell. Hershel takes a closer look at the doctor, whose eyes have begun to bleed. They are all running out of time. Rick then visits Hershel through the window.

'When we get past this thing, it's not going to be like it was before, is it?' It won't be the same. The group got a 'break' during the past few relatively bucolic months.

'I have to talk to you about Carol,' says a pained Rick. The news hits Hershel hard.

He goes back into the quarantined cell to find Sascha lying on the floor. No, but the woman in the cell next door is. And her dead, bleeding eyes suddenly open.

Glenn, meanwhile, is caring for a sick man who suddenly dies. Glenn tries to call for Hershel, but he is soon uncontrollably coughing blood.

Lizzie discovers Glenn and yells for help. Then all hell breaks loose. The walker woman comes shambling at Hershel. Another walker man appears -- and bites a survivor, who manages to get off a single gunshot.

Outside, Rick and Maggie hear the shot. Maggie runs inside while Rick goes looking for Carl to help him finish securing the perimeter fence, which is about to collapse due to a crush of walkers. Finally, Carl gets to help dad. Back in the quarantined cell, a walker is about to start eating Lizzie for dinner when Hershel appears and flips the walker over the second floor cellblock railing. Hershel finds Glenn breathing, but barely. Hershel goes to Dr. S's cell to get the shotgun and finds that the medical professional has turned into a rasping member of the undead.

Hershel stabs the ex-Dr. S in the brain. Outside, the barricade that Rick and Carl furiously works on gives way. Dozens and dozens of walkers get through.

Rick and Carl barricade themselves inside the secondary fence as walkers flood the yard. Rick the makes a decision. He takes Carl to the weapons stash and they both load up with assault rifles and ammo. The walkers break through the second fence and father and son open fire. Dozens of walkers go down as the duo reloads.

Inside, Hershel is firing away with the shotgun, trying to protect the still living. Maggie uses a gun to blast her way into the quarantined cellblock. She kills off a walker trying to eat Hershel and they both rush to help Glenn, who is wide-eyed and choking.

Hershel quickly inserts a plastic tube into the young man's mouth and squeezes the attached plastic ball to help Glenn breath. He stabilizes. Outside, Rick and Carl walk amid the dozens of dead (again) walkers. Rick doesn't like seeing his son shoot and stab walkers, but it is what it is. Just then, at worst moment, Daryl appears at the front gate with the medicine. The sick people get injections. Finally, his job done for now, Hershel limps to Dr.

He closes the dead man's eyes and begins to weep. Outside the prison, the camera pans away as we see the outlines of Rick and Carl walking back up to the prison. As the camera pans out, we see a figure watching them from the distance. As the figure turns slightly and the episode comes to a close, we see the tell-tale eypatch. The Governor has returned. Indifference Lizzie comes to see Carol, who. Lizzie comes to see Carol, who explains that she is going on a run with Rick.

'We lost all our food in cell block D, so we're going to look for some more,' Carol says. Lizzie explains that she understands many will die. And that she finds some solace in 'coming back' as a walker.

'We all change,' the little girl opines as if coming back as a flesh-eating monster is the most normal thing in the world. Carol dispenses more tough love to the girl, making sure she has her knife well hidden. Lizzie slips and calls Carol 'mom.'

Carol tells the girl not to call her that. Tyreese rings walker gore off his clothes and body in a stream. He is still very angry and bitter, mentioning that he lost his girlfriend and will likely lose his sister soon. Rick and Carol drive into a nearby neighborhood. On the way, Carol defends her decision to kill off the first of the infected survivors. Rick remains silent as the grave.

Daryl's group, in the meantime, runs into a horde of hidden walkers at an overgrown, long-abandoned gas station. Tyreese struggles with his walker for a bit too long, refusing to disengage the drooling, growling creature. It's almost as if the big man wants to become lunch.

Inside a suburban home, Rick and Carol find two young people, a man and a woman who offer them fresh fruit. The man, Sam, has a dislocated shoulder and Carol helps him reset it.

It soon becomes apparent that the two young people have fallen for each other and aren't as hardened as Rick/Carol. Outside, Michonne warns Tyreese that anger makes people 'stupid.'

She used to be angry, but not anymore -- or so she claims. So why, Tyreese wonders, is she still going out periodically to look for the Governor? 'I don't know,' Michonne responds. Back at the suburban home, the young survivors volunteer to help Rick and Carol sweep the neighborhood for supplies. Against Rick's better judgement. Nevertheless, Rick hands Sam a gun.

'Meet back here in two hours,' he says. Rick and Carol ransack a house -- and Carol says what both are thinking.

Why hasn't he said anything about Carol killing two sick people? Carol points out that Rick has killed a human threat, too, referencing Shane. 'You don't have to like what I did,' she says. You just have to accept it.' Afterward, as they pick veggies from a garden, Rick and Carol discover a blood trail. They follow it and find two walkers feasting on the young woman from earlier. 'We should get back,' Carol says with no emotion.

'Sam is probably waiting.' We didn't even know her name. Daryl and co. Enter the veterinary clinic and load up on supplies. They're just about done when they spot a horde of walkers. The group ducks into a dark room full of animal cages and then onto a stairwell leading up. The walkers that follow are weeping blood from their eyes.

They are also infected with the flu virus, so splattering blood and gore is now an additional danger to teeth or tears. Daryl and co. Escape onto a roof and Bob stumbles.

He manages to stay on the roof, but his bag of pilfered medicine and supplies goes over. He fights to get the bag back and finally does.

Daryl hears a 'clink' and looks at the contents. Bob hasn't even bothered to get what the group came for. He only wanted alcohol to dull the pain of, well, everything.

Daryl looks ready to murder. 'Let it go, Daryl,' Tyreese urges.

'Man's made his choice.' Daryl shoves the bottle back into Bob's hands, warning him that he best not take a sip until the meds get to the prison. Back in the neighborhood, Sam still hasn't arrived. Rick wants to stay, but Carol demands to leave. Rick can no longer stay silent. 'They might have lived -- Karen and David,' Rick says.

'And now they're dead. That wasn't your decision to make.' Rick then says that he will tell everyone at the prison because he has to.

He also says that if it came down to Rick, his children and Carol, he wouldn't want Carol around. He no longer trusts her. Rick tosses her bag onto the curb.

So Carol loads up her own car with supplies and gas, and Rick helps her. They have an awkward goodbye during which Carol hands Rick her old husband's watch. Goodbye, Carol. Isolation Glenn and Maggie are out in the. Glenn and Maggie are out in the prison yard digging graves -- a lot of them.

Looks like the mysterious 'bug' running through the prison is not letting up. Meanwhile, Tyreese shows Rick the burned bodies out back. They were that of Karen and David, who were infected by the virus but had not yet died before that point. 'Somebody dragged them out here and set them on fire!' Tyreese rages. 'You find who did this and you bring them to me! Bring them to me!'

Rick tries to calm down Tyreese, who punches the leader in the face. Rick punches back -- and is soon beating Tyreese almost to pulp. Daryl pulls him away. Rick stares at his bloody fist.

It's all unraveling. Later, Hershel tends to Rick's hand, explaining that it won't be of much use for the next few days. Hershel then delicately tells Rick that there is a council meeting scheduled for the next day.

Rick, ever the reluctant leader, declines the invite. Outside, Hershel discovers Sascha coughing violently. Sascha wonders inside in search of Dr. -- only to find that the doc is very sick, too.

Double uh oh. At the council meeting, our leading survivors -- minus Rick, of course -- discusses the possibility of finding antibiotics. The only problem: antibiotics are very, very hard to come by these days. Hershel suggests a college's animal hospital some 50 miles away -- and then suggests putting the most vulnerable, the children, in quarantine. Rick pays a visit to Tyreese and apologizes for the beating. Again, Tyreese demands finding the person who burned Karen. 'What I'm picking up is that murder is OK in this place now,' he fumes.

Inside the prison, Carl is annoyed that he has to be quarantined with a 'bunch of kids.' He also points out to his dad the possibility that he might have to use his gun if things go bad. Later, Maggie visits Glenn. He is coughing. 'Don't come any closer,' Glenn croaks. Daryl and Michonne prepare a car with supplies for their expedition to the college.

Daryl explains that Bob will be joining the antibiotic team, but that he would feel much more comfortable with one more able body. But who's left? Daryl approaches Tyreese, who turns him down flat and would rather guard the door to quarantine. 'We're gassing up out front in case you change your mind,' Daryl says. Later, Carl is on patrol and catches Hershel making his way outside toward the field.

Carl knows he can't stop the older man and demands to accompany him. Meanwhile, Carol escorts Lizzie into quarantine -- and is strong until the door closes. Then she breaks down and cries. Outside the prison, Hershel picks plants while Carl stands guard with his gun. Carl spots a campsite and the two approach, finding a rotting walker lying against a tree.

Another walker its foot in a bear trap lurches nearby. Carl anxiously raises his gun. 'Don't,' Hershel says. 'You don't need to.' So the boy lowers his weapon and the two quickly walk away.

After an emotional conversation with Sascha, through glass, Tyreese volunteers to go with Daryl, Michonne and Ben on the trip to find antibiotics. Carol, in the meantime, checks the water reserves -- almost empty.

Tyreese approaches Carol, and asks her to look in on Sascha for him. Carol agrees. 'What happened to Karen.

I'm so sorry,' Carol says. Hershel returns with plants and berries -- 'a natural flu remedy' -- and is confronted by Maggie and Rick, who beg him not to enter quarantine and risk getting sick. 'I can make these people feel better and hang on a little longer,' Hershel says. 'I can save lives. That's reason enough to risk mine.' Later, Carol is outside the fence trying to reconnect a hose that brings water into the prison.

For some unknown reason, Carol waits far too long to make her escape. She is aided by Rick and his gun before slipping back into the prison. 'Piece of cake,' Carol gasps. She completed the job, but Rick is upset that she went against his earlier advice to reconnect the water together the next day. On the road, Daryl and Michonne's team run into literally hundreds of walkers congregating in the road. The undead get stuck under the wheels, rendering the car useless.

They all make a run for it -- except for Tyreese, who sits in the car and appears to be considering dying. Finally, Tyreese leaps from the car and, in a rage, attacks every walker he can in the horde. When it appears that Tyreese has been hopelessly surrounded, the rest of the team moves reluctantly, but still quickly into the woods. By some miracle, a blood-and-guts splattered Tyreese soon joins them. He made it through. Hershel, in the meantime, gives his tea to Dr. S., who coughs violently into Hershel's face, splattering the old man with blood.

He calmly removes the bandana covering his mouth. No turning back now.

Later, Rick approaches Carol. He has investigated the scene of Karen's burned body and knows Carol did it. Rather than deny or even show any shock or remorse, Carol immediately owns up to it. Infected Tyreese and Karen are talking. Tyreese and Karen are talking. Tyreese tries to get Karen back to his cell, but she turns him down. So Karen retreats, by herself, to her own room inside the prison.

Stumbling after her is a walker, the recently infected young man (Patrick) from the survivors' group, in fact. It bypasses Karen's cell when a neighbor coughs. And that neighbor, who is sleeping, quietly gets his throat torn out. The next morning, that neighbor awakens as a member of the undead. So now there are two walkers inside the cell block. Outside, Rick and Carl say goodbye to Michonne, who is heading back outside to search for supplies and other things. Later, father and son feed the pigs and garden.

'Dad, when can I have my gun back?' Before he can answer, Rick hears gunshots from inside the prison. He races inside while Michonne, who is outside the prison on horseback, turns around to help.

She is assaulted by walkers, who pull her down to the ground. Carl grabs a rifle and shoots one walker in the head. Maggie dispatches the other. Michonne is safe.

Inside it is chaos. There are now even more walkers and the terrified survivors flee for their lives while Rick and Daryl do their best to shoot, stomp and stab their cellmates-turned-feasting undead. Finally, all the new walkers are destroyed in messy fashion, leaving behind a terrible scene of carnage. Afterward, Rick and Daryl take the horrible duty of making sure the dead are dead by stabbing or shooting the bodies in the head. Carol, meanwhile, tries to take care of a bitten prisoner, who knows he is going to die. He asks that Carol take care of the prison's kids like 'they're yours.'

Crying, she agrees. Rick, Daryl and Hershel then discuss the origin of the internal outbreak and settle on a flu-like 'bug' that killed the survivors -- and, thus, turned them into walkers.

Rick notes that one of his pigs recently died quickly and without obvious explanation. There is now a different kind of infection to worry about in this post-apocalyptic non-paradise. Carol then brings in the bitten man's two young daughters, who say goodbye to their father through tears. The man breathes his last breath -- and the older girl volunteers to stab her dead in the brain before he turns. Ultimately, however, the girl can't do it -- and an understanding Carol takes the knife and does the deed. Shortly thereafter, Hershel and the rest of the council forms a plan: they will have to separate those who exhibit flu-like symptoms in a different cell block (death row, no less), including -- much to Tyreese's horror -- Karen.

Outside, Carol bluntly tells the two young girls that she promised to look after them -- and that they have to be stronger than they have been. The girls do not take it well and leave crying. Maggie screams for Rick and Daryl, who are busy burying the dead bodies. There is a crushing horde of walkers piling up against the prison fence.

Maggie, Glenn, Sascha, Rick and Daryl begin killing the walkers off one by one, but there are far too many. Sascha then notices dead, mangled rats along the perimeter. Somebody has been feeding the walkers, so they've naturally come out in force. The fence begins to bend perilously.

'Daryl, get the truck,' Rick says. 'I know what to do.' Inside, Carol asks Carl if he told Rick about her survival lessons to the children.

Carl did not, but clearly thinks Carol should tell the kids' parents. 'I'm not asking you to lie,' Carol says. 'I'm asking you not to say anything.'

Elsewhere, Judith spits up on Beth, who asks Michonne to hold the baby while she cleans up. Michonne at first rudely refuses, but then takes Judith.

And hugs the child tenderly, weeping. Outside, Daryl and Rick drive the truck away from the prison. In the back are all the (possibly infected) pigs. Rick cuts the pigs with a knife and then throws them into the approaching zombie hoard. The ploy draws the walkers away from the prison fence while the survivors inside fortify it. All this killing gets to Rick, and he hides his face after slicing open the last of the pigs he spent the last few months caring for.

Later, Carl tells his father that Carol has been teaching the children to use weapons. 'I think you should let her,' Carl says. Says Rick: 'Thank you for telling me.

I won't stop her. I won't say anything.' Rick then douses the old pig pen with gasoline and lights it on fire. Finally, he hands Carl his old gun back -- and then holsters his own firearm.

It's not what Rick wanted, but it's the way it is. 30 Days Without an Accident Rick begins his morning at the prison.

Rick begins his morning at the prison with a cool splash of water on his face followed with some work in the group's burgeoning garden. Meanwhile, walkers roar in blind hunger on the other side of the high, chain fence. Another day in paradise. Later, Rick and his son Carl look over a pig that the younger Grimes calls Violet. 'I told you not to name them,' Rick says.

'They're not piglets anymore; they're food.' The survivors have apparently become quite industrious in the past few months -- even bringing in additional survivors (who, rather comically, have come to love and respect Daryl as a provider of food, especially fresh meat). Not all is hunky dory, however. More walkers than usual are massing outside the prison as of late. Outside, Karen is on fence duty -- i.e. Spearing walkers through the brain with a long pointy stick to cut down the undead numbers. She is approached by Tyreese, who explains that he is volunteering to go 'on a run' because he prefers killing walkers in the field and not so up close and personal as the fence method.

The two then share a romantic kiss. Newcomer Bob Stookey, a former military medic, also volunteers for the next food/supply run, but Sascha is suspicious. 'I want to make sure you know how to play on a team,' she says before agreeing to include him. Michonne then rides through the gates of the prison bearing gifts, including comics for Carl. 'You going to stay awhile?' Michonne implies that she might before commenting: 'I didn't find him.'

Later, Hershel approaches Rick with news from the new prison 'council' made up of familiar faces like Glenn, Carol, etc. They want Rick to start carrying his gun again, especially when going outside the gates to retrieve game caught in their traps. Rick reluctantly agrees. While collecting small animals from the survivors' traps, Rick hears a female voice. The woman, who looks halfway between human and walker, says. The woman claims to be starving -- and that she has a husband somewhere nearby.

She begs to be brought back to Rick's camp. He explains that she and her husband can come in to be questioned. 'Three questions,' he says. Daryl and his team, meanwhile, are scouting the parking lot of a big box store. It briefly served as an Army shelter for survivors, but no more. Young Zach takes the opportunity to try and guess -- again, apparently -- what Daryl did for a living before the turn.

'Homicide cop,' the young man says. Michonne bursts out laughing. That IS funny. Play time is soon over, though.

Time to head inside to gather supplies. Inside, Bob walks through the liquor aisle shaking his head. But the compulsion is seemingly too strong and reaches for a bottle.

And succeeds in knocking over the entire shelf. It falls to the floor, pinning Bob's foot. No one panics, but that's because they don't know about the dozens of walkers on the store's roof. Those walkers hear the crash of the bottles and take an interest.

A wrecked helicopter on the roof has also weakened the concrete considerably. Sure enough, walkers begin falling through the ceiling.

Meanwhile, Rick walks through the woods with the mystery woman, who speaks in a foreign accent and explains that she was traveling when the world all but ended. She's had to do some terrible things. 'Do you think you get to come back from them?' Funny she should ask. Rick doesn't go out of his way to answer. Back inside the walker-infested superstore, Glenn, Tyreese, Michonne and others shoot, stick, stab and beat walkers.

While helping to free and save Bob, young Zach is bitten on the leg. And then the neck. He is a goner. The group flees just as the military helicopter crashes through the roof into the middle of the store.

Rick and the mystery woman finally reach her camp -- and it quickly becomes clear that the husband is a walker and Rick is intended to be food. When the woman attacks Rick with a knife, he deftly disarms her and aims his pistol. Instead, she stabs herself, wanting to become a walker, too. As she lie dying, she asks about the three questions. What are they? 'How many walkers have you killed. How many people have you killed.

Rick answers. The mystery woman dies. Rick leaves her and her husband where they lie and heads back to the prison. Back at the prison, Carl sneaks in on story time for the kids. He's too proud and ashamed to flat out join the session, which is just 'for kids.'

Carol leads the story and then stops abruptly, revealing a box of giant knives. She explains that, today, they're all going to learn how to hold and use a knife safely. Carol then spots Carl.

'Please, don't tell your father,' she says. Story time is just a cover for training. Later, Rick returns to find that Violet has died.

He bows his head, on the verge of tears. Inside, Maggie tells Glenn that she is NOT pregnant.

He is greatly relieved, though she says that she would've had the baby. 'How can you say that after Lori?'

Maggie says that she does not want to be scared of being alive. Daryl then breaks the news of Zach's death to Beth, who was having a mini romance with the boy.

She takes the news surprisingly well -- almost cold. 'I don't cry anymore, Daryl,' she says. 'I'm just glad I got to know him.' It's nighttime and everyone is sleeping, or trying to.

Patrick, a young man about Carl's age, stumbles out of bed. He is sweating profusely. He stumbles into a shower and collapses. Some time later, his eyes open. They are dead. He is a walker now. Welcome to the Tombs The Governor punches Milton in the.

The Governor punches Milton in the face over and over. Turns out Milton burned the walkers that were going to be used to assault the prison. Plus, Milton knew Andrea was going to flee and didn't say anything.

'What would your daughter think?' Growls the Governor: 'She'd be afraid of me. But if I'd been like this from the start, she'd be alive today.' The Governor then drags Milton to Andrea, who is tied to a chair.

The Governor hands Milton and knife and demands he kill Andrea. Instead, Milton tries to stab the Governor, who wrestles the knife from his former first mate and drives it into his gut. The Governor then closes the door to the cell, leaving Milton behind to turn into a walker and tear Andrea to pieces.

He says 'In this world, you either kill or die or you die and kill' At the prison, the survivors are packing up all their meager belongings and putting them into cars (Daryl, of course, packs up his motorcycle). Rick sees Lori one last time. Later, Michonne thanks Rick for taking her in -- and not giving her up to the Governor. 'It was Carl who made the call,' Rick explains. 'He said you belong here. You're one of us.'

Meanwhile, the citizens of Woodbury are packing up, too -- but for an impending assault on the prison. Tyreese and Sascha decide to stay behind to protect Woodbury's children. They'll kill walkers, but not other people. The Governor is not pleased, but manages to mutter a very strained 'thank you.' No time for this now.

The Governor's forces roll up to the prison with guns blazing. They take out all surrounding walkers and break into cell block C to find it empty.

The Governor seethes. Back at Woodbury, a dying Milton tells Andrea that there is a pair of pliers on the floor behind her. Andrea struggles to reach the tool with her feet. 'When you get free, you are going to find something very sharp and you are going to stab me in the head,' Milton gasps. 'That is what you are going to do.' Back at the prison, the Governor and his forces search the prison. Soon, they are assaulted by smoke bombs.

The alarm goes off and walkers appear. The men rush outside into the prison yard.

Above, Maggie and Glenn -- in full riot gear -- open fire. The Governor and his surviving army jump into their vehicles and drive away in full retreat. In the nearby woods, Carl, Hershel and Beth watch and wait with Judith. One of the Governor's army -- just a boy -- wanders toward them and offers to surrender his weapon. Carl, angry at not being allowed to fight, shoots the boy dead. Hershel is shocked.

Later, Hershel tells Rick that Carl essentially shot an unarmed boy. 'I'm telling you he gunned that kid down,' Hershel says.

Rick doesn't want to believe it. The Governor's caravan stops a few miles down the road. The Governor demands they go back to the prison and dig in. The majority of the Woodbury residents refuse.

'That was a slaughter!' Karen screams.

The Governor snaps. He opens fire on his own people, murdering more than a dozen, including Alan. Martinez backs away in horror, but still doesn't try to stop his boss. Rick asks Carl if the dead boy was handing over his weapon. 'I couldn't take the chance,' says Carl, who points out that Rick failed to protect Lori and then didn't kill the Governor when he had the chance, leading to more deaths.

'I did what I had to do,' Carl says. Rick is taken aback, but he can hardly argue. So Rick, Michonne and Daryl head out to pursue the Governor's forces. They find the massacre in the road. Along with a single survivor, Karen.

Andrea manages to pick up the pliers with her feet just as Milton begins to turn into a walker. She screams and manages to get free, but Milton is almost on top of her. Meanwhile, Rick, Michonne, Daryl, and Karen approach Woodbury. They exchange fire with Tyreese and Sascha before Karen identifies herself and explains that the Governor killed all of Woodbury's small army.

Tyreese opens the doors and lets Rick and company inside. Rick explains that Andrea never showed up at the prison.

'She may be here,' Rick says. They group heads to the room where Glenn and Maggie were kept prisoner -- and find Andrea on the floor. She is alive, but badly bitten. She asks if the rest of Rick's group is alive and is happy to hear that they are. 'I can do it myself,' says Andrea, knowing this is the end. While I still can.' Michonne cries as Rick hands Andrea his gun.

'I tried,' Andrea says. Rick closes the door, leaving Andrea alone with her friend Michonne. There is a single gunshot.

Sometime later, Rick and company return to the prison with all the remaining citizens of Woodbury -- women, children, and older men. Rick looks up to where he last saw Lori, but his dead wife appears to be gone for good. This Sorrowful Life Rick and Hershel secretly share with. Rick and Hershel secretly share with Daryl news of the Governor's deal: give up Michonne and there will be peace. 'It just ain't us, man,' Daryl says.

Still, Rick wants to avoid mass bloodshed. He then approaches Merle and asks for help. Merle explains that the Governor won't kill Michonne, but will torture her. Rick appears unmoved. 'You're cold as ice, Officer Friendly,' Merle says.

Michonne and her blade, meanwhile, are helping the group rid the prison yard of walkers. She also has somw good ideas about setting some traps for the Governor's forces. 'We don't have to win,' she says. 'We just have to make them getting at us more trouble than it's worth.' Inside, Carol asks Merle point blank whether he is one of the group.

'It's time to pick a damn side,' she says. Outside, Daryl assures Glenn that Merle is sorry for what he did.

'He tied me to a chair, beat me, and threw a walker in the room,' Glenn says. 'He took Maggie to a man who terrorized her, humiliated her.' In short, even if Merle were to apologize, Glenn likely wouldn't be too receptive. Daryl then pays a visit to Merle, who makes fun of his little brother for answering blindly to Rick -- even when it comes to sacrificing Michonne. 'Your people look at me like I'm a devil,' Merle notes. 'Now you want to do the same damn thing I did.'

Later, Rick is seeing Lori again. Though she's no longer dressed in white. Despite repeating over and over to himself that his dead wife really isn't there.

Real or not, the vision is judgmental -- and Rick decides that he can't and won't sacrifice Michonne. Unfortunately, Merle has figured that Rick would fold when the moment of truth arrived -- and decides to take matters into his own hand.

Alone with Michonne fending off walkers, he whacks her on the head, knocking her unconscious, and then ties her up. A few hours later, Merle leads the bound Michonne away from the prison and into a nearby town. Back at the prison, Rick and Daryl discover that Merle and Michonne are missing.

Daryl volunteers to track down his brother -- alone. Glenn, in the meantime, goes to Hershel and asks to marry Maggie.

'You have my blessing,' says the old man with a smile. Merle and Michonne come to a motel, where Merle successfully hot-wires a car.

Unfortunately, he sets off the car alarm, too, bringing walkers from all sides. Michonne kicks one over and stomps out its brains and uses her restraints to decapitate another, before Merle grabs his gun and starts shooting. The two then jump into the car and speed away from the shuffling walker horde.

Glenn walks outside the prison and, through the fence, removes a finger from a walker's hand and relieves it of its ring. As Michonne and Merle drive, she points out that he is ruining his best chance to start over.

She also points out that the Governor turned Merle into a mass murderer. Why would he kill yet another person for that psychopath? 'We can just go back,' Michonne says. Merle slams on the breaks and cuts Michonne free. She has gotten to him. Merle then gives Michonne her sword and tells her to go back to the prison and get ready. 'I've got something I've got to do alone,' he says before driving away.

Michonne meets Daryl on her way back. She explains that Merle let her go. Worried, Daryl keeps moving forward. Merle, meanwhile, is sitting in his car in the parking lot of a liquor store, taking slugs from a bottle of whisky and blasting rock n' roll.

That attracts walkers, and Merle slowly drives forward, leading them to the meeting point where the Governor, Martinez, Allen and crew are waiting. Merle jumps out of the moving car and hides unnoticed in a barn. The Governor's group opens fire on the walkers. Merle, meanwhile, has taken up a hidden position and starts picking off the Woodbury van guard.

Just as he takes a shot at the Governor, an unfortunate Woodbury citizen, Ben, walks into his line of fire and falls as the Governor realizes there's a new threat. Merle is then attacked by a walker -- and the distraction is enough to allow the Governor's men to storm his position.

The Governor himself steps in, grappling with Merle. In the fight, the Governor bites off two fingers on Merle's remaining hand. 'I'm not going to beg!' Merle shouts. Growls the Governor: 'No.'

The Governor then takes aim and fires, presumably ending Merle's existence. Glenn approaches Maggie and places the ring in her hand. 'Yes,' she says. They embrace.

Later, Rick tells the entire group about the proposed Michonne deal -- and how Merle might've messed it all up. He then tells the survivors that he was wrong not tell them earlier -- that he isn't their Governor. 'We choose to go, or we choose to stay,' Rick finishes.

'We stick together.' Rick then spots Michonne approaching the prison.

He is relieved. Daryl, still tracking his brother, approaches the barn and finds dozens of mutilated walkers. He also finds Merle feasting on a corpse. His brother is a walker now. Crying and screaming in anguish, Daryl stabs his brother in the brain over and over and over and over. Prey FLASHBACK.

A pair of jawless, armless. A pair of jawless, armless walkers are tied to a tree next to campfire where Andrea and Michonne cook dinner. 'Where did you find them?' But Michonne doesn't want to talk about it, other than to say: 'They deserved what they got -- they weren't human to begin with.' The Governor's forces prepare for war by loading weapons onto a truck. 'I thought there was a deal on the table,' Andrea says. Milton says that it's just a precaution, but he doesn't look completely sure.

So Milton visits the Governor and tries to get him from killing everybody at the prison. The Governor refuses to listen, citing the death of his walker daughter and his need for revenge. Milton then goes behind the Governor's back and shows her the torture chamber being built for Michonne.

'This is sick,' Andrea whispers. Later, Milton tries to tell Andrea that killing the Governor won't save her friends in the prison -- because Martinez would just take over. Andrea tells Milton that she is heading back to the prison. 'If you stay, you can't keep looking the other way,' she says. Andrea then meets the Governor on the street.

'I want you with us when we go to meet Rick,' he tells her. Andrea acts nice and promises to help wherever she can. She then heads to the wall and walks past Tyreese and Sascha, who are standing guard. She tells the pair that the Governor isn't what he seems to be.

In fact, the man is a monster. So Andrea escapes Woodbury, but carries only a knife after her firearm was collected for the attack on the prison. Tyreese and Sascha then head to the Governor and tell him what happened. The Governor spins a story about Andrea being mentally unstable -- and then asks Tyreese and Sascha to help Martinez on a special project. The Governor then finds Milton, who admits that he knew Andrea was going to leave.

The Governor quickly deduces that Andrea also knows about the impending assault on the prison. He is furious. Meanwhile, Andrea runs down the road when she hears the Governor's truck behind her. She races into the woods and is immediately set upon by a group of walkers. Using only her knife, she manages to dispatch all three of the zombies.

With well-placed stabs to the eyes and forehead. Tyreese, Sascha, Alan, and Ben join Martinez offsite at a hole in the ground filled with trapped walkers. Tyreese quickly deduces that the walkers will be used against Rick's survivors at the prison. 'You can't do this!' Tyreese says. 'They have women and children!' That prompts a fistfight with Alan, who is committed to making a new life in Woodbury.

In the end, Tyreese decides not to toss Alan into the pit. Andrea runs through a field and is spotted by the Governor, who goes off road and races his truck toward her. She runs to an old factory and hides inside. The Governor soon enters and begins to stalk Andrea through the ruined interior.

'Come home, Andrea,' he says. 'We need you.'

When she doesn't answer, the Governor begins bashing all the glass he can find with a shovel. He is distracted by a noise behind.

But it turns out to be walkers. He shoots them -- and then bashes their brains to stew with the shovel. Andrea runs for a door leading upstairs, but the stairwell is absolutely filled with walkers.

Just then, the Governor appears. 'Time to go home, Andrea,' he growls. Andrea throws open the door and hides behind it while walkers spill out by the dozens. Andrea makes a run for it as the walkers descend on the Governor. Behind her, she can hear the Governor fighting and yelling. Elsewhere, a mysterious someone arrives at the walker pit and soaks the site and trailer in gasoline before tossing a match.

All of the walkers being saved for the assault on the prison go up in flames. As day breaks, Andrea approaches the prison. Just as she is about to walk out into the open -- and into the arms of her old comrades -- the Governor appears from behind and pulls her down. The Governor returns to Woodbury, but claims not to have seen or found Andrea. He also tells Tyreese and Sascha that the walkers at the pit were just going to be used as a scare tactic.

Tyreese apologizes for stirring up trouble and assures the Governor that he and his group want to stay in Woodbury. 'Where did you get the gasoline?' The Governor asks. Tyreese clearly doesn't know what the Governor is talking about. His suspicions turn to Milton.

Andrea, in the meantime, is being held in the Governor's torture chamber -- bound and gagged. Arrow on the Doorpost Rick, Daryl, and Hershel ride out to. Rick, Daryl, and Hershel ride out to a nearby farm looking for supplies. Rick walks into a barn. And finds the Governor waiting. The Governor raises his arms in a sign of non-aggression and smiles. 'We have a lot to talk about,' he says.

The Governor sets his weapon down and asks to negotiate. Outside, Daryl and Hershel raise their weapons at an approaching car carrying Andrea, Martinez and Milton. Andrea goes inside the barn. 'Let's end this,' she says to Rick and the Governor. 'Save the bullets for the real threat.' Back at the prison, the survivors load up on weapons taken from Morgan's place.

Merle wants to take the weapons to the meeting point at the farm and kill the Governor right now, but Glenn insists they stick with Rick's plan. Back at the barn, it's revealed that Andrea called this meeting with the hope that the two sides might hammer out their differences. That ends when the Governor announces that he is only here to negotiate Rick's surrender. The Governor then asks Andrea to step outside.

She is embarrassed and disappointed. Inside, Rick and the Governor talk. The Governor quickly begins to play dirty, explaining that he knows the infant in their group might not be Rick's child.

In other words, Rick has been a bad judge of character in the past. Has he also misjudged the Governor?

Rick doesn't think so. Outside, walkers show up and Martinez and Daryl have a kind of contest to see who can kill the most undead in the most creative fashion. Afterward, the two rivals almost bond by sharing a smoke. Meanwhile, Hershel and Milton -- the two men of science -- also talk shop and share insights.

The atmosphere is downright friendly. Inside, on the other hand, the tension is thick. The Governor explains to Rick how, before the outbreak, he lost his wife in an accident, leaving many questions unasked and unanswered. Rick can sympathize.

At the prison, Merle begins to pack a bag full of weapons and ammo. 'You can't stop me,' says Merle, announcing his attention to head out and assassinate the Governor. 'It's my brother out there!' Glenn tries to stop Merle and the two are soon tussling. Beth fires a shot in the air to stop them both. Outside the barn, Andrea asks Hershel what the Governor did to Maggie. 'He's a sick man,' Hershel says.

Andrea hangs her head. 'What am I going to do now?' 'I can't go back there!' Hershel says Andrea should be with her 'family' back at the prison. Inside, the Governor says he knows Rick has more guns, but Woodbury has more men.

In other words, the war would be drawn out and bloody no matter what. The Governor says he wishes to avoid bloodshed -- and demands only one thing. 'I want Michonne,' he says, showing Rick his dead eye. 'Turn her over and this all goes away. Is she worth it?' At the prison, Glenn and Maggie, whose relationship has been strained of late, share a tender moment and profess their love for each other. It turns into a fairly heavy make out session and the two decide the bury the hatchet by having a quickie on the floor of the prison.

Inside the bar, Rick suggests that killing Michonne is 'beneath' a man called the Governor by his people. The Governor stands firm: deliver Michonne or the two groups go to war. 'You think about it,' he says, standing to leave. I'll be here at noon.' So the negotiation ends and the two groups go their separate ways. Andrea stands in the middle -- and ultimately decides to go back with the Governor.

Back at Woodbury, the Governor tells Milton that the plan is to eliminate everybody who shows up at the barn from the prison -- except for Michonne, who the Governor wants all to himself. So, in two days, Rick and company would be walking into a slaughter. Milton is aghast. At the prison, Rick tells his group that the Governor wants the prison and wants all of them dead. 'We're going to war,' Rick tells the group.

Later, Rick tells Hershel that the Governor asked for Michonne. Hershel says that Michonne saved Carl, Maggie, others -- 'She's earned her place.'

Asks Rick, 'Are you willing to sacrifice your daughters lives for her?' Rick is considering the Governor's deal, after all, it would seem.

'I'm hoping you can talk me out of it,' Rick tells Hershel. Clear Michonne drives Rick and Carl down a. Michonne drives Rick and Carl down a road when they see a young man with camping gear on this back. The man tries to get the car to stop. But Michonne doesn't even pump the breaks. And Rick says nothing. Some miles down the road, they must stop to try get around a pile up in the road.

The car gets stuck in the mud and walkers come shambling. 'Cover your ears,' an eerily calm Rick tells Carl before rolling down the window a few inches and firing away.

With the walkers exterminated, Rick and Carl are able to push the car back onto the road. Suddenly, they hear distant yelling and turn to see the man in camping gear sprinting toward them. Rick and Carl climb into the car and it takes off -- leaving the pleading man in the dust.

Later, the trio stops at an old police station -- where Rick used to work, in fact. They're looking for guns, but don't find any. Rick then suggests checking out a few other places in the heavily fortified town. The group is soon ambushed by a man in body armor shooting from the roof. The man seems to have Rick dead to rights when Carl steps out and shoots. The man goes down. Asks Rick, staring at his young son.

Carl says he is fine. They take the armor off the man, revealing Morgan, who Rick last saw long ago. 'He saved my life,' Rick tells Michonne.

'He wasn't like this then. He has a son.' Inside, they find 'Duane turned' written on the wall. They also find a huge cache of guns -- perfect for the upcoming war against the Governor.

On another wall is a sketch of the entire neighborhood. Rick's house is marked with 'burned out' scratched across it in red chalk. Carl then suggests going next door to a baby supply store to look for a crib for Judith.

Rick reluctantly agrees if Michonne agrees to go with him. Once out on the street, Carl goes straight past the baby place.

'I'm getting Judith something else,' he says. Rick, meanwhile, is attacked by Morgan, who springs from his sleep and accuses Rick of having turned.

He stabs Rick in the shoulder, before Rick throws him to the ground. Morgan then begs Rick to shoot him. 'Just kill me. Just kill me,' Morgan mutters. Finally, Morgan seems to recognize Rick -- and then accuses him of going back on his promise to talk to Morgan via walkie talkie.

'We kept getting pushed out farther and farther!' Says a guilty Rick. Morgan then explains that he was unable to kill his walker wife, who eventually attacked and killed Duane.

'I was selfish,' Morgan weeps. 'I was weak.' Outside, Carl and Michonne approach a cafe that is crawling with walkers.

They distract the horde by tossing caged animals -- a trick left behind by Morgan -- into the middle of the restaurant. Then, they sneak around back. Only to find dozens more. They flee outside and Carl drops what he came for: a framed photograph of his family from happier days. Michonne tells Carl she will go inside and get the photo. 'No more bullshit!'

Michonne boasts. 'That's how we get it done.' Sure enough, Michonne eventually returns with the photo.

'I just think Judith should have one. It's the only one left,' he explains. Rick, in the meantime, urges Morgan to come back with him to the prison. 'You will be torn apart by teeth or bullets -- you and your boy, your people!' Morgan yells. Because I am not going to watch that happen again!' Morgan yells.

Rick tells his old friend that he must be strong. He must recover and find his humanity again. 'You have to be able to come back from all of this!' Says Rick, likely trying to convince himself, too. Morgan refuses. Rick goes outside to see Michonne and Carl carrying a crib. They head out of town.

Rick asks his son if everything went OK with Michonne. 'I think she might be one of us,' the boy says. Michonne then has a heart-to-heart with Rick, telling him that she understands if he occasionally 'sees people.' 'I used to talk to my dead boyfriend,' Michonne says.

'It happens.' On the drive back, they see the bloody remains of the camper, his body torn to shreds. They stop the car to retrieve the man's pack. And then speed away. I Ain't a Judas The survivors argue about what they.

The survivors argue about what they should do next. Stand their ground, or try to run from the Governor. Daryl declares that he isn't scared of the one-eyed terror. 'Y'all should be,' warns Merle, who is separated from the group by a locked cell door.

'He's got the guns and the numbers.' Rather than make a decision, Rick makes to wander back outside -- perhaps in search of visions of his dead wife. Hershel has had enough of that. He tells Rick that it's time to put aside Lori. 'Get your head clear,' Hershel says.

'And do something!' Later, Carl approaches his dad with advice. 'You should stop being the leader,' the boy says. 'You deserve a rest.' Back in Woodbury, the Governor and Milton discuss training an army of residents, including adolescents. Andrea bursts into the room and challenges the Governor about going to the prison.

The Governor claims to have gone only to negotiate before being attacked. 'They're bloodthirsty,' he warns. 'You go to that prison, you stay there.' Back at the prison, Glenn voices his objection -- again -- to the presence of Merle. Daryl voices his support -- again -- of his brother.

Hershel then has a heart-to-heart with Merle, who explains that the Governor will kill everybody, including children, before Rick so that the leader will suffer the most. 'That's who you're dealing with,' Merle finishes. Carol then welcomes back Daryl -- and offers her advice on family relations. 'He's your brother, but he's not good for you,' she says.

'Look how far you've come.' Back at Woodbury, Andrea tells Milton that she is sneaking to the prison, but needs his help. Milton immediately goes to see the Governor and shares the news.

'Help her,' the Governor growls. So Andrea and Milton head out into the woods to tackle and pin down a walker. Andrea proceeds to hack off each of its arms. She then puts a rock under its mouth and stomps on its head, effectively de-toothing the monster. Andrea then puts a leash around its neck when, suddenly, Tyreese, Sascha, Alan and Ben burst into the forest clearing. At the prison, Merle tries to apologize to Michonne.

He says he was just following orders when he tried to kill her. 'Let bygones be bygones,' Merle says. Michonne, being Michonne, doesn't say a word. In the woods, Milton volunteers to take Tyreese and his crew back to Woodbury while Andrea continues her 'sweep' of the area with the limbless, toothless walker in tow -- a tactic to ward off other undead. Later, she approaches the prison and is first spotted by Carl. Andrea walks to the gate, which Rick opens at the last moment.

He holds a gun to her head. 'Welcome back,' he growls. Andrea is brought inside, where at least Carol greets her with a hug. Everybody else is pretty cool to their old traveling partner. Andrea asks about Shane and Lori -- and, from all the grim faces, guesses their fate. 'We can settle this,' Andrea says.

'There is room at Woodbury for all of you.' She then explains that the Governor is training the citizens of Woodbury for war. Andrea doesn't want anymore bloodshed, but nobody believes the Governor shares her wishes for a truce.

Later, Andrea and Michonne have a quiet moment. 'He sent Merle to kill me. Would've sent Merle to kill you, too, if you had come with me,' Michonne says. Andrea is thunderstruck.

At Woodbury, Tyreese and crew reveal that they were at the prison before an 'unhinged' Rick threw them out. 'We'll do anything to earn our keep,' Tyreese says. In other words, the Governor may have himself a few more soldiers. At the prison, Carol has parting advice for Andrea: 'Give him the greatest night of his life and, then, when he's sleeping, you can end this.' Cynical, but effective. That night, Andrea pulls up to the front gates of Woodbury in a car given to her by Rick and her old mates. She is left alone with the Governor.

'I went to the prison, they're broken,' Andrea explains. She says she made a choice to come back to Woodbury. And back to the Governor. Soon, the two are making out. Is this a true reconciliation or the beginnings of Carol's plan? Later, Andrea rises from bed and gets a knife.

She stands over the Governor. But then backs away. She can't bring herself to kill him, it seems. Home Rick surveys the prison yard with. Rick surveys the prison yard with binoculars and, once again, sees his dead wife in a fancy, white dress.

He approaches her. And she disappears. Lori reappears outside the prison gates so Rick follows. Finally, they meet and she caresses his face.

Michonne watches Rick interact with nobody. In Woodbury, Andrea receives a visit from the Governor, who promises not to retaliate against the survivors in the prison.

'I've done some terrible things, I'm not fit to lead these people,' the Governor says. 'But you are.' The Governor explains that he truly believed he could keep his daughter alive long enough to find a cure.

But, now, he needs 'time.' Would Andrea take over as leader? Elsewhere, Daryl and Merle are hunting in the woods. Merle explains that there is no reason to even think about going back to the prison because the Governor is going to kill all of Daryl's friends. At the prison, Michonne warns the group of the same exact thing. Glenn volunteers to sneak back into Woodbury and assassinate the Governor himself. Hershel advocates leaving the prison.

'We can't run,' says Glenn, deciding that they'll defend the prison. In Woodbury, the Governor visits Milton and asks the lackey to keep tabs on Andrea. The Governor isn't sure where her loyalties lie.

At the prison, walkers are getting into the complex, but nobody is sure where the breach might be. Glenn then approaches Maggie, who lies in bed and relives the horrors of her time with the Governor.

'You go away!' She hisses at Glenn. Outside, Carol shows Axel how to load a gun. 'You're quite a lady,' he says.

Daryl and Merle continue their trek through the woods when they hear a baby crying. Daryl runs for a closer look and sees a group of strangers being attacked by walkers on a bridge. Inside a car is a woman holding a screaming baby.

Merle tells his little brother to let it go, but Daryl doesn't listen. He opens fire on the walkers, slamming the last one's head in the car's hatchback. After the gore, Daryl and Merle find the survivors don't speak English. Merle begins ransacking the car for supplies and Daryl trains his crossbow on his bro. The terrified, but safe, survivors drive away.

Merle blames Daryl's time with 'Sheriff Rick' for his bleeding heart betrayal. It soon leeds to blows. Daryl's shirt is torn, revealing old scars on his back, apparently from whippings. Asks a shocked Merle. Turns out Merle left home after being beaten badly by their father. Afterward, dad turned his attentions on Daryl.

Daryl then says he's going back to the prison to defend it against the Governor. Merle, feeling terrible for leaving his baby brother all those years ago, follows. At the prison, Hershel warns Glenn that his 'rage' is going to get him killed.

Glenn says that with Daryl gone and Rick gone crazy, he's in charge. Speaking of Rick, he continues to search for his dead wife outside the safety of the prison. Hershel approaches and asks if the leader is coming back.

'Glenn's on the warpath,' Hershel explains. 'We need you now more than ever.' Hesitantly, Rick says that he saw Lori. 'I know it's not really her, but there's got to be a reason. It's got to mean something,' says Rick before turning away and walking back into the woods. Meanwhile, Michonne watches quietly. Meanwhile, Axel is talking (flirting) with Carol when his head suddenly explodes.

A hundred yards away, the Governor lowers his assault rifle. Martinez opens fire, barely missing Rick, who dives for cover. Hundreds, maybe thousands, of rounds are exchanged.

Suddenly, a truck comes CRASHING through the prison gates before stopping in the middle of the yard. It's back drops open. And dozens of walkers pour out.

The driver of the truck, wearing head-to-toe armor, runs out and escapes. The Governor smiles, gets back into this truck, and drives away. The survivors furiously try to kill the walkers. And are soon joined by Daryl and Merle.

They manage to fight off the undead, but now the war has officially started. The Suicide King It's Daryl vs.

Merle with the whole. It's Daryl vs.

Merle with the whole of Woodbury screaming for blood. Andrea runs out into the circle and pleads for Daryl's life. 'He's my friend!' The Governor dismisses her -- and tells Merle to prove his loyalty.

So Merle begins to kick and punch his brother. While they grapple, Merle whispers: 'Just follow my lead little brother.' So they stand -- back to back -- and begin to fight off walkers led into the ring by the Governor's goons.

Suddenly, shots ring out. It's Rick and the gang, firing from the ground and the wall above.

A smoke bomb erupts and everyone scatters wildly. Daryl and Merle escape with Rick -- Daryl grabbing a crossbow on the way out. Merle leads the group out of Woodbury. While walkers make their way inside.

Morning arrives and find Glenn and Michonne waiting. Of course, Glenn and Michonne lose it when they spot Merle. Michonne, in particular, would like to slice and dice the new member of the group, but Rick won't let her. Merle being Merle, he taunts Michonne about Andrea getting really cozy with the Governor.

Our survivors are shocked to hear that she is inside Woodbury. At the prison, Tyreese and Sascha get to know Hershel. They explain that they stayed in the bunker of a survivalist neighbor until they ran into Alan and Ben and, eventually, caught on with about 20 others. 'Our camp was overrun about six weeks ago,' Sascha explains.

Hershel believes they are good people, but warns that it's not up to him to decide whether they stay. The group will decide -- once Rick and company returns. Speaking of, Rick, Glenn and Maggie insist that Merle not return to the prison. Daryl understands, but declares that he isn't going anywhere without his brother. He won't -- and disappears into the woods with his big brother. Rick then turns to Michonne, who the group isn't crazy about either. 'We patch you up and then you are gone!' Rick tells Michonne.

They head for the prison. Outside the prison, Alan and Ben try to convince Tyreese and Sascha to take out the survivors while it's just a kid, a few women, and a one-legged old man. But Tyreese and Sascha refuse.

'It's survival of the fittest!' But Tyreese won't budge. 'We don't do that!' Later, on the way back to the prison, Glenn becomes furious at Rick for a).

Letting Daryl walk away after they went to so much trouble to save him and b). Letting the Governor live.

Harsh words are exchanged, suggesting Rick has, once again, let down the group. Back at Woodbury, everything has gone to hell. Citizens are trying to crash through the gate and leave, but armed guards won't let them. 'Everyone calm down!' Andrea screams. It gets worse when the crowd hears screaming from the opposite end of the street. Chewing on flesh.

Andrea races to the scene and executes the undead. A Woodbury man has been bitten badly and lies shaking on the ground.

'Somebody do something!' A woman in the crowd yells. The Governor appears and shoots the man in the head. Then, without a word, the Governor turns back around and stalks back inside.

Rick and company return to the prison. Carol wants to know what happened to Daryl. But we ran into his brother,' Rick explains. 'They went off.' Carol can't believe that Daryl is gone. Rick tries to comfort her. Elsewhere, Andrea confronts the Governor, explaining that the good folks of Woodbury are scared.

'They've had it easy,' the Governor says. 'We're at war.' The Governor then claims that he didn't tell Andrea that he had Glenn and Maggie because she is 'just a visitor, passing through.' Andrea refuses to be pushed out that easily. The Governor then reminds Andrea that it was her 'friends' who just broke into town and killed seven people. The Governor refuses to go outside to calm the townsfolk, so Andrea does it for him.

She delivers a speech about perseverance and hearts and minds -- and everybody seems to buy into it. The Governor watches from the window above. At the prison, Beth and Carol have a heart to heart.

Beth, who has been taking care of the infant, worries that 'we're weak' without Daryl. Hershel, meanwhile, tends to the considerable wounds of Maggie and Glenn. He notes that both are holding something back. What happened in Woodbury?

'Don't disappear on me,' Hershel tells his daughter. Father and daughter hug. Rick then goes to meet with Tyreese, Sascha, Alan and Ben. Tyreese offers to help in any way they can.

Rick refuses, saying that it's too dangerous. Hershel pulls aside Rick. 'I'm telling you, you're wrong on this,' Hershel says. 'You've got to start giving people a chance.' Rick is about to say something when he looks up. And sees the silhouette of Lori in white above.

Rick begins to scream and rage at the ghostly figure, scaring everybody in the room. It appears that the leader is losing it. Made to Suffer Rick, Daryl, Oscar and Michonne enter. Rick, Daryl, Oscar and Michonne enter Woodbury in search of Glenn and Maggie. When shooting erupts, they are soon reunited but they will have to fight their way out. One will not make it.

The Governor needs a scapegoat and he is quick to point the finger at one of his own. Michonne goes off on her own, intent on killing the Governor.

She waits for him in his quarters but isn't quite prepared for what she finds there. Back at the prison meanwhile, a new group arrives in need help. A small group of survivors reach the prison and Carl rescues them from an attack of walkers in the boiler room, but keeps them locked in a cell with water and supplies. In Woodbury, the Governor sees his daughter Penny in his room.

When Merle and another local are preparing to execute Glenn and Maggie, Rick, Daryl, Oscar and Michonne breaks in the place and rescue the couple. There is a shooting and Oscar is deadly wounded, Daryl covers the escape of Rick, Maggie and Glenn. But Michonne stays, expecting to kill the Governor in his home but he is saved by Andrea. When Michonne reaches the group, Rick believes that she had double-crossed them and takes his sword since Daryl is missing. Meanwhile the Governor accuses Merle of betrayal for the dwellers of Woodbuury and shows Daryl that was captured, accusing him of terrorism while the astonished Andrea watches everything. When the Dead Come Knocking At the prison, everyone is surprised. At the prison, everyone is surprised by the arrival of Michone but they have no intention of letting her stay and join the group.

She tells them about Glen and Maggie being taken to Woodbury and offers to lead them there. She makes no mention of Andrea or Daryl's brother. In Woodbury, Merle interrogates Glenn rather forcefully but he refuses to tell him where the others can be found. The Governor decides to interrogate Maggie himself and has more success. Meanwhile the Governor has asked Andrea to help Milton with an experiment. Glenn is tortured by Merle that wants to know where the survivors are.

But Glenn is tough and resists to his brutality and does not tell where the location of their camping. Meanwhile Michonne is attacked by the walkers but Rick and Carl rescue her. Rick sees that she is wounded by a gunshot and Hershel treats her. Michonne discloses that Glenn and Maggie have been abducted and taken to Woodbury, and Rick organizes a team with Daryl, Oscar and Michonne to rescue their friends.

In Woodbury, Milton is carrying out experiments with walkers and the skeptic Andrea question whether he has already seen a transformation process. When the Governor humiliates Maggie and threatens Glenn with a gun, she tells that the survivors are lodged in the prison. The Governor organizes his men to go to the prison. But Rick and his group are outside Woodbury waiting to break in the fortress.

Hounded At the prison, Rick is surprised. At the prison, Rick is surprised by the ringing telephone after his rampage against the walkers. The callers won't identify themselves or say where they are other than they are in a very safe place. While Rick comes to terms with his own demons, Daryl, Carl and Oscar go to clear out other areas of the prison. Just when he thinks he's done, Daryl makes an amazing discovery.

In Woodbury, the Governor sends Merle and three others to track down and kill Michone. They don't have much luck but Merle comes across Glen and Maggie who were out looking for baby formula.

Meanwhile, the Governor and Andrea become more acquainted. Merle hunts down Michonne with a three-man team, but she surprises them, killing Tim and Crowley and only Merle and the rookie Gargulio survive. Rick receives a phone call from a woman that tells that her group is in a safe place far away and Rick asks to join them telling that he has a baby. Two hours later, Rick is contacted by a man and after a short conversation, the stranger hangs up and Rick tells only to Hershel. Andrea stays in Woodbury and asks to stay on the watch on the wall.

When a walker comes, she jumps to stab the zombie and the Governor tells her that she can not work on the wall again. They drink whiskey and have a love affair. Merle and Gargulio proceed their hunting and when they find Michonne, they are attacked by walkers and the wounded Michonne escapes.

Merle decides to lie to the Governor, telling that they had murdered Michonne. Gargulio does not agree and Merle kills his colleague. Meanwhile Daryl goes with Carl and a prisoner to check the cell block and he has a great surprise. Rick receives a third call and the woman surprisingly knows his name and on the next call, he discovers with whom he is talking to. Michonne sees Maggie and Glenn in a town searching for powdered milk and supplies; out of the blue, they are surprised by Merle. Say the Word At the prison, Rick is nearly.

At the prison, Rick is nearly catatonic in his grief and heads off on his own inside the prison. Daryl and Maggie go off to find formula for the newborn.

In Woodbury, the residents celebrate their survival with a town picnic. A suspicious Michonne takes the opportunity to look around and finds some walkers locked away. She kills them only to find she has interfered with a research project. Unable to convince Andrea that they are really prisoners, Michonne leaves on her own. Andrea is not too keen on the evening festivities. One of the Governor's secrets is revealed. There is a big party in Woodbury and the Governor combs the hair of his daughter Penny that is a walker in his house.

When he leaves the place, Michonne breaks in the house to retrieve her sword and then she kills seven imprisoned walkers. Merle brings her to the Governor and she threatens him with her blade pointed to his throat. Michonne leaves Woodbury but Andrea prefers to stay. Meanwhile in prison, Rick is absolutely disturbed and takes an ax to kill walkers inside the cell block. Daryl and Maggie seek powdered milk for the starved baby, otherwise she will die.

The exhausted Rick rests and is awakened by a long time forgotten sound. Killer Within Someone is opening the prison gates. Someone is opening the prison gates and attracting walkers inside. Rick and his group prepare a crutch for Hershel while the two inmates try to negotiate with Rick, Daryl and T-Dog to join their group, but Rick does not accept the offer and they decide to leave the facilities. When Rick, Daryl, and Glenn are outside the prison to burn corpses and clean the place, the rest of the group is attacked by a crowd of walkers and Maggie, Carl and Lori split and head to the interior of the C-Block, while T-Dog is bitten by a walker.

Meanwhile Michonne sees the holes of bullets in the National Guard vehicles and she decides to leave the place with Andrea. However, the blonde is reluctant to leave Woodbury, since she believes that the governor is a good man. Back to prison, Lori can not run anymore and Maggie and Carl locks with her in the boiler room.

Now is time to the delivery and Lori needs a cesarean, but Maggie does not have skill or medical supplies. A decision has to be made: if Lori has the baby, she dies and will certainly turns into a walker, unless someone helps her.

Walk with Me Andrea and Michonne see a helicopter. Andrea and Michonne see a helicopter crash and they head to the spot to seek out survivors to help them. However a group of armed men arrives together and they hide in the wood. The men take the pilot from the helicopter and the women are surprised by Merle. The group takes Andrea and Michonne to their community in Woodbury where the women are welcomed with food, medicine, hot shower and clothes. They are introduced to the Governor, a man that rules Woodbury, protecting and giving quality of life to the people in the community.

Andrea believes that Woodbury is the perfect place in the chaos, but Michonne does not trust on the Governor and wants to leave the place. Meanwhike, the helicopter pilot tells the location of the National Guard convoy with his friends and the Governor promises to rescue them with his men. But when they arrive in the location, something happens. Sick Having found some of the prison.

Having found some of the prison inmates alive, Rick proposes that they clear out another cell block for them. The prisoners were locked in the cafeteria area by a prison guard when a riot erupted 10 months before and have been there ever since. They have no idea what has been going on in the outside world. Rick's first priority is to protect everyone in his group so when push comes to shove, he's prepared to do whatever is necessary.

Hershel is still unconscious following the amputation and they are keeping a close watch on him in the event he should turn into a walker. Carl upsets his mother when when goes off on his own. As for Andrea, she realizes helping Lori with the birth of her baby will now fall on her shoulders. Seed The survivors have spent a difficult. The survivors have spent a difficult winter moving from place to place trying to stay clear of the walkers and constantly looking for food. Lori is now at the advanced stage of her pregnancy but it's obvious that she and Rick aren't getting along. When they notice a prison in the distance, Rick convinces them it may be just what they're looking for with the possibility of food and medicine being available.

They have to fight their way in, eliminating a large number of walkers but they soon settle into a secure prison block. Several of them set off to explore the prison but are soon surrounded by walkers. They aren't the only survivors in the prison either. Beside the Dying Fire Rick and Carl return to the farm but. Rick and Carl return to the farm but quickly realize that that they are being followed by by a large group of walkers. Mayhem ensues as the humans try to save the farm but they are eventually forced to flee realizing that the it is lost.

Several of them do not survive the onslaught and others are separated into small groups. Some are reunited but fed up with the constant bickering and complaints about his leadership, Rick lets it be known that people will now do as they are told. Andrea meanwhile, on her own and separated from the others, is rescued by a hooded stranger.

Better Angels The group of survivors is organizing. The group of survivors is organizing the preparation for the winter following the instructions of Rick. Carl is uncomfortable, feeling responsible for the death of Dale and he talks to Shane about what had happened in the swamp. He asks Shane to give the weapon back to Daryl and Shane talks to Rick about the problem.

While Rick and Carl are having a conversation, Shane works hard and Lori tells to him that she is not sure whether the baby is his or Rick's. Shane releases Randall and walks with him on the field. Out of the blue, he breaks Randall's neck, hides his body and simulates that Randall has beaten him up. Daryl and T-Dog and Rick and Shane seek Randall in the real estate.

When Daryl and T-Dog find Randall's body, Shane threatens Rick with his weapon, forcing him to defend himself. Carl arrives and draws the gun that his father gave to him. Judge, Jury, Executioner Daryl interrogates Randall about his.

Daryl interrogates Randall about his group and he learns that they are formed by thirty dangerous men capable to rape two teenage daughters in front of their father. Rick and Shane decide to kill Randall, who is considered a threat to the survivors, but Dale opposes to their decision and Rick summons the group that is supportive to the execution to vote. Dale tries to convince each survivor that they must not lose their humanity.

Carl is affected by the situation and has strange actions: first he sneaks to talk to Randall; then he disrespects Carol with an offensive comment about her beliefs; then he teases a walker that is trapped in the swamp; then he decides to participate in the meeting that will judge of Randall; and finally when Rick is ready to shoot Randall in the head, Carl arrives in the barn affecting Rick. Meanwhile Dale wonders on the field and is surprised by the walker that Carl had made fun of. Triggerfinger Lori is attacked in her broken car. Lori is attacked in her broken car by two walkers but she succeeds in killing them. Meanwhile, Rick, Hershel and Glenn are ready to leave the bar but the friends of Dave and Tony arrive in the town seeking their friends out and they are trapped.

Tony tries to negotiate a truce with the guys, but there is a shootout that attracts many walkers to town. In the farm, the survivors find that Lori is missing and Shane drives a car to seek her out on the road. When he meets Lori, he lies to her and tells her that Rick is safe and sound in the farm. Later he tells to her that he did it to protect the baby and Lori. When the walkers arrive in the town, the strangers flee and leave behind one of their friends that is injured.

Rick brings the guy to the farm and Shane is worried that the strangers find the farm. Lori decides to tell to Rick that Shane is dangerous and believes that her baby is also his. Pretty Much Dead Already It's dawn at the Hershel farm. It's dawn at the Hershel farm. Our survivors eat lunch in a camp outside the main house. Suddenly, Glenn stands up after an encouraging nod from Dale.

'Um, guys, so. The barn is full of walkers,' Glenn discloses.Shane peeks into the barn. Sure enough, there are more than a dozen hungry, drooling zombies inside. Shane becomes angry. He wants to leave -- immediately. Daryl, Rick and Carol argue. What about Sophia?

Well, Shane is sick of hearing about Sophia. In fact, the former deputy strongly suspects that Sophia is dead. 'Let me talk to Hershel!' Rick insists. 'This is his land.' Later, Glenn tries to talk to Maggie, but she breaks an egg over his head.

Hershel's daughter is angry that Glenn spilled the big secret. Carl, meanwhile, declares that he is not leaving until the group finds Sophia. 'She's going to like it here -- this place,' Carl says of Hershel's farm.

Lori gives her optimistic boy a big hug.Daryl is still recovering from being shot. Nevertheless, he prepares a horse to go searching when Carol approaches -- and urges Daryl to take it easy.

'Can't lose you, too,' Carol cries. That doesn't sit well with Daryl, who throws a saddle and storms out of the barn.Dale then confronts Andrea about Shane.

'Is that what you want to be?' Andrea says that Shane isn't a 'victim' -- and she likes that about him.Inside the farm house, Rick approaches Hershel. 'We found the barn,' Rick says. 'I'd like to talk about it.'

Hershel doesn't want a debate. 'I need you and your group gone by the end of the week,' Hershel says. 'I've given you safe harbor.

My conscience is clear.' Rick pleads his case, explaining that Lori is pregnant. Hershel remains stubborn. Later, Rick tells Shane that Lori is preggers. 'We need to stay,' Rick explains. Shane tries to be thrilled.In the Hershel kitchen, Maggie tells her father to practice what he preaches and let the survivors stay. Suddenly, Jimmy enters the kitchen.

'It happened again,' Jimmy says. Hershel immediately goes to Rick to ask for help.Shane, in the meantime, confronts Lori about her pregnancy and Rick. Shane claims to have saved Lori's life four times -- four more times than Rick. He says Rick is weak -- and not equipped for this new world. Shane also believes the unborn baby to be his. Lori becomes angry and defiant. 'Even if it's yours, it's not going to be yours,' she spits.

Shane is hurt -- and angry.He then storms into the RV, looking for something. He can't find it -- whatever it is -- and demands to know where Dale went. Glenn isn't sure. 'I don't get it,' Glenn says. Responds Shane: 'No, man, you don't,' and sets off to track Dale.Hershel leads Rick to the edge of the river where two walkers await are immobilized in muck. Hershel challenges Rick to catch and subdue the zombies.

And not kill them. He then says that if Rick and his group are to stay, they will need to abide by Hershel's rules for capturing any and all walkers. Rick agrees.Back at the farm, Glenn tries to speak with Maggie, but is rebuffed -- again. Glenn steps in front of his would-be girlfriend. 'I don't care if they're sick people or dead people, they're dangerous,' he says. 'I don't want you in danger.

Secrets get you killed!' Maggie understands -- and demonstrates her understanding by kissing Glenn.Shane approaches Dale in the woods where he is about to secretly cache the group's firearms. 'How bout you give me that bag?' Retorts Dale: 'What? Are you going to shoot me like Otis?' Shane demands the bag of guns. Dale raises his weapon at Shane.

And then lowers it. 'At least I can say when the world went to shit, I didn't let it take me down with it,' Dale says.

Not appearing to hear or understand, Shane takes back the weapons.Shane then comes storming back to the farm. He hands out guns to all the survivors, telling them that they are not only going to stay, but that they are also going to take out all the zombies in the barn. 'This is not your decision to make!' But furious Shane isn't listening. Just then, the survivors see Rick and Hershel emerge from the woods with walkers at the end of long sticks.

He goes ballistic. Ranting and screaming, Shane shoots one of the captured walkers several times in the body to make the point that real people are injured when that happens, and then he shoots the walker in the head.He tells the group that it is 'enough' -- it is enough looking for a little girl that is dead and putting up with Hershel's plan to corral the zombies until a cure can be found.'

If you want to survive, you gotta fight for it!' Shane then breaks open the barn door. The zombies come lurching out -- and Shane opens fire. Daryl, Andrea, T-Dog and Glenn (after getting a reluctant 'go ahead' nod from Maggie) also open fire. Rick does not. Hershel watches in horror as his friends, neighbors and relatives die for a second time. It is a massacre.The final walker to stumble out of the barn is Sophia.

Carol runs toward her little girl, who snarls. Daryl holds back Carol. No one shoots. Finally, Rick steps forward. He draws his gun.

And shoots Sophia in the head.To be continued in February. Secrets It's morning at Hershel's farm and. It's morning at Hershel's farm and, as the survivors go about their chores, Patricia sneaks into the chicken coop, breaks a chicken's legs, and then takes it toward the big barn. Glenn, who knows about Hershel's secret, is watching the barn through binoculars when Maggie approaches. 'You have to keep this to yourself,' she says.

He agrees.Later, Andrea brings a book to wounded Daryl -- and apologizes for accidentally shooting him. 'You were protecting the group -- we're good,' Daryl says. Later, Glenn approaches Lori to discuss yet another secret. 'You have a medical condition,' says Glenn in reference to her hush-hush pregnancy. 'I'll make another run into town -- just tell me what you need.'

What Lori needs is for Glenn to keep his mouth shut. Familiar.Carl then asks Shane to teach him how to shoot. Shane, warming to the boy once again, agrees to ask Rick and Lori. Then Shane notices that Carl is carrying loaded handgun in his belt. A furious Lori hears from Dale how Carl asked to let inside the RV because he was looking for a walkie.

'So on top of everything else, he lied?' Carl hangs his head. 'He wants to learn how to shoot,' says Shane, who volunteers to help. Rick is sympathetic to the request. Lori is decidedly not.

'I want to look for Sophia, I want to defend our camp,' Carl says. 'I can't do that without a gun.'

Reluctantly, Lori agrees.Later, a nervous Glenn spills it all to Dale: 'There are walkers in the barn and Lori's pregnant.' So Dale approaches Hershel. 'I took a long walk this morning and ended up by the barn,' Dale says. 'I heard the moans.' Hershel defends himself. 'A paranoid schizophrenic is dangerous, too,' he says. 'We don't shoot sick people.

My wife and stepson are in that barn. They're people.' Hershel then asks Dale to keep quiet if he really wants to help. 'Rick's a man of conscience, but are you so sure about all the people in your group?' Hershel asks. Dale has no response to this question/challenge.Andrea is trying to shoot a piece of wood hanging from a tree limb. Shane shoves the wood, sending it swinging back and forth and creating a moving target.

He begins to berate Andrea, trying to get her to concentrate and understand that she will need to shoot under pressure and emotional turmoil. 'Pretend it's the walker that got Amy!'

That's too much for Andrea, who recoils in horror and then walks away. Lori then approaches her husband with news she heard from Hershel: Rick plans to take the group away from the farm. Rick explains that he is trying to convince Hershel to let them stay, but it might take some time. He tells Lori to just give Hershel 'some space.' Shane, meanwhile, chases after an angry Andrea. He lamely apologizes and then mentions a lead on Sophia.

Would Andrea like to be his backup? She agrees.Back at the farm, Lori doubles over in front of Dale.

She is nauseous. Dale admits that he knows her secret. Lori admits that while the baby is almost certainly Rick's -- and not Shane's -- she can't bear the thought of bringing a newborn into this apocalyptic world. 'Look me in the eye and tell me that my baby will grow up to be your age,' Lori says.

Alas, Dale cannot.Lori then goes straight to Glenn -- and apologizes for saddling him with her secret. Then she asks Glenn to head back into town to get her a few pregnancy related items. So Glenn and Maggie ride into town on horseback. She is angry because Glenn betrayed her trust to Dale. She is also angry that Glenn is sympathetic to keeping the zombies safe in case a cure is found -- especially considering that Maggie's mom is among the barn's walkers.

Inside the pharmacy, Maggie and Glenn are searching for the proper meds when a zombie grabs through the stacks and attacks Maggie. Glenn shoves the walker away and then viciously beats in the skull over and over and over and over. A shaking Maggie embraces Glenn.

This time, she was just fine with killing the undead.Later, Maggie storms back to the farm and throws a package of 'abortion pills' at Lori, telling her to go get her own damn medicine the next time and stop putting Glenn in danger. Lori is so taken aback that -- for once -- she says nothing.Shane and Andrea are in a car in a suburban neighborhood in search of Sophia. They enter a house and see signs that the family which lived there barricaded themselves and made a fight of it. Almost immediately, they are attacked by a horde of walkers. In making their way back to their car to escape, Shane shoots a number of the zombies in the head while a flustered Andrea fumbles with her weapon. After a few errant shots, Andrea finds her groove, shooting zombie after zombie in the head.At the farm Lori apologizes to Glenn. Glenn then wonders if the morning-after pills will even work.

He then hands Lori prenatal vitamins as second option. 'I can't tell you what to do,' Glenn says. 'But your choice -- maybe you shouldn't make it alone.' Andrea and Shane are riding in the car back to the farm. A smiling Andrea, excited by her new skill at arms, reaches over and grabs Shane's crotch. Shane stops the car. 'Well, come on then,' he says.

It gets very physical. Later, the two new lovers return to the farm and break the bad news to Carol: no sign of Sophia. No dummy, Dale senses something different between Shane and Andrea.Surprisingly, this prompts Dale to suggest that Shane get out of town.

Dale even suggests that the details of Otis's death are quite vague. 'I know what kind of man you are,' growls Dale, bringing up the time Shane trained his gun on Rick. Shane says he loves Rick -- then warns Dale that he should be careful when leveling accusations. Very careful. Dale gets the message -- and is quite scared. Shane just smiles.

And walks away.Finally, Rick walks into his wife's tent and sees the pills. He approaches his wife. 'Something you need to tell me?' Lori explains that she took the morning-after pills, but threw them up. Rick is furious.

'I screwed up!' 'I don't know how we do this!' Says Rick: 'We can make it work. We'll figure it out. Shouldn't we try to figure it out!?'

Rick then says he can't live with the lies. 'Is there anything else I should know about?' Responds Lori: 'Shane and I' Rick says he knows. He has known all along -- and he understands. Lori thought her husband was dead.Lori and Rick, seemingly apart from one another, standing close in proximity, look out on their future at the farm.There seem to be no more secrets. Chupacabra FLASHBACK. A long line of cars chokes.

A long line of cars chokes the highway as families attempt to flee the undead menace. Shane, Lori and other familiar faces try to restrain their panic in front of the children. Suddenly, there is a loud BANG. Helicopters fly overhead. Lori and Shane run toward the sound. From the woods, they watch a city being bombed by the government. Horrified and frightened, the pair embraces.

Lori awakens inside a tent outside the Hershel farm. Carol suggests cooking dinner for the Hershel clan.

'Trying to look for things to keep my mind occupied,' the distraught mom explains. The survivors then plan their day of searching for Sophia. Dale and T-Dog affectionately tease Daryl, who claims to have once seen a Chupacabra.

Daryl points out that dead are currently walking the Earth. So stranger things have happened.CUT to Glenn, who approaches Maggie and notes that they still have 11 condoms left. 'I don't even know if I like you,' she says. Still, Maggie appears intrigued.

Later, Rick and Shane search for Sophia and joke about the girls Shane slept with in high school. Shane suddenly becomes serious.

'That life is gone and everyone in it,' he says. Shane then gets honest with Rick, telling the sheriff that they are wasting their time -- and risking their lives -- wandering through the woods looking for a girl who is likely dead. Rick, of course, feels personally responsible -- and has no plans to call off the search.CUT to Daryl, who rides through the woods on horseback. He stops on a ridge and looks down on the riverbank. There appears to be a body in the muck. Daryl approaches. He finds a doll and some clothes.

Daryl gets back on the horse -- literally -- and it is SPOOKED by a snake. Daryl is THROWN and he tumbles down a steep hill. The expert hunter lies injured and bleeding. In fact, he has accidently impaled himself on one of his arrows. It sticks through his side.

Daryl stumbles to his feet and ties off his wound. He limps badly to shore. Doesn't look good.Glenn, meanwhile, approaches Lori. 'You're pregnant,' he whispers.

Lori swears the young man to secrecy. She hasn't told a soul. Rick soon returns and pulls aside his wife. 'Shane says my good intentions are making us weaker -- that I can't make the hard decisions for the good of the group,' Rick explains to Lori. She tells Rick to stay the course. He isn't being soft at all, in her humble opinion. Rick is then summoned to speak with Hershel.

'One of my horses is missing,' Hershel says. 'Did one of your people take it?'

Rick apologizes. He thought Daryl had informed the old man. Also: Hershel is upset that young Jimmy joined the search team.

Again, Rick thought Hershel was aware when he wasn't. Hershel has a simple solution to the communication problems: 'I'll control my people, you control yours.' Rick agrees without saying a word.CUT to Daryl, who lies unconscious on the riverbed. Suddenly, Merle appears and berates his little brother.

'You're going to die out here, little brother -- and for what?' Big brother wants to know why Daryl is risking his life for a little girl and not out searching for his sibling. 'One of these days, they're going to scrape you off their heels like you was dog%#@&,' Merle says. 'They ain't your kin. Ain't nobody going to care about you except me.' And then Merle -- a hallucination -- is gone.

Unfortunately, Merle has been replaced by a drooling zombie. Daryl suddenly springs to life, STABBING the zombie in the eye with a piece of wood. Another walker approaches. Daryl RIPS the arrow from his side, loads his crossbow and SHOOTS it in the head.Daryl then decides to take his phantom brother's advice and get serious about surviving.

He eats a squirrel -- raw -- before making a necklace of zombie ears. Soon, Merle reappears. 'I'm as real as your Chupacabra!' Somehow, Daryl makes it to the top of the ridge. Merle is gone.

'Yeah, you better run!' Daryl screams at nothing. Later, Hershel is upset to find Rick's survivors cooking dinner in the kitchen. 'We need to be setting clear boundaries with these people,' Hershel tells Maggie. 'Don't get close to them. They aren't going to be around forever.' Unhappy, Maggie leaves the room.Outside, Glenn approaches Dale for advice about Maggie.

In order to do so, Glenn admits that he had sex with Maggie. Dale is concerned, worried that Hershel would be mighty upset (and he would, too).

'He is our host,' Dale says. 'Jesus, Glenn, what were you thinking?' Says Glenn: 'I was thinking that I might be dead tomorrow.' Suddenly, Andrea spots a walker emerging from the tree line a few hundred yards away. She is anxious for some target practice and takes aim. Of course, the walker is actually a bloodied and shambling Daryl.

She FIRES -- and Daryl goes down.Lori's pride turns to HORROR when she discovers that she has shot Daryl. The survivors drag Daryl inside. He has been grazed in the neck. Later, Hershel tends to Daryl, who explains that he found Sophia's doll in the creek bed. Hershel, meanwhile, has just about had enough. His horse is missing and the antibiotics are going fast. 'It's a wonder you people have survived this long,' he pointedly tells Rick.

Shane agrees with Hershel. 'We can't keep going out there -- not after this,' the deputy says. Rick storms out. Dale, in the meantime, tells a distraught Andrea that she shouldn't be so hard on herself. 'We've all wanted to shoot Daryl,' he quips. Andrea manages to smile weakly.Later, Hershel's people and Rick's people eat dinner together inside the farmhouse. No one says much.

Maggie and Glenn pass notes like school kids. It looks like they might get back together, after all.

Carol then brings Daryl dinner. 'You did more for my little girl today than her daddy did his whole life,' Carol says. 'You're every bit as good as them. Daryl doesn't respond.

After dinner, Maggie reads the note from Glenn: 'Ever done it in a hayloft?' Maggie appears horrified.

CUT to Glenn, approaching the property's massive barn. It is locked, so he climbs to the second level and enters.

Inside, more than a dozen zombies are being kept. Maggie enters. 'You weren't supposed to see this,' she says.To be continued. Cherokee Rose All is quiet at the Hershel. All is quiet at the Hershel homestead. You'd almost think the zombie apocalypse hadn't occurred.

It did, of course, and we're soon reminded by the arrival of all our favorite survivors, who have abandoned their highway campsite for country living.Carl continues to recover under the watch of Rick and Lori. Dale is overjoyed that the boy will OK -- and Rick makes a point to thank Shane for his heroics. Of course, Shane knows HOW he was able to get away from the undead and shudders at the memory. His shame becomes worse when Hershel asks him to speak during Otis's funeral. 'You were the last one with him,' cries Patricia. 'Please, I need to hear.'

Shane spins a story about Otis being a hero who willingly sacrificed himself to save Carl. It's a convincing story.Later, the entire gang turns its attention toward missing Sophia, pouring over survey maps and the like.

Hershel politely suggests that the new arrivals don't carry guns on his property. Shane doesn't like it, but Rick agrees. Maggie then volunteers to go to the local pharmacy to stock up on medical supplies. Rick suggests that Glenn accompany her. Lori approaches Glenn and hands him a note. She says that she needs a personal item from the pharmacy and nervously asks that he keep this request between the two of them. Sometime later, Lori and Shane have an awkward exchange.

'Did you mean it?' 'When you said 'stay,' did you mean it?' Says Lori: 'I meant it.' Shane then teaches Andrea how to strip the weapons before he stores them all in the RV. Hershel, meanwhile, approaches Rick with a stern reminder.

'Once you find this girl and your boy is fit for travel, I expect you'll move on,' Hershel says. 'We need to be clear on that.' Dale and T-Dog are busy pumping water out of the well when Dale hears a noise from the deep.

A horribly bloated zombie is at the bottom of the well. The disgusting walker might or might not have already contaminated the water, but blowing its brains out surely will. So how to get it out? The gang lowers a canned ham, but the zombie doesn't go for it.

'We need live bait,' Andrea says. Everybody looks at Glenn, the smallest in the group.CUT to Glenn with a rope wrapped around his chest. He is lowered down into the well toward the snarling, bleached zombie. Suddenly, the pipe to which the rope is tied SNAPS, sending Glenn PLUMMETING downward. T-Dog is able to grab the rope and holds on for dear life. Moments later, the group pulls Glenn out of the well. Even better, Glenn managed to fit a noose around the walker's midsection and 'hook' it.

So, as it turns out, the boneheaded plan actually worked. The zombie can now be hauled out.Daryl, in the meantime, approaches a rotting house with his crossbow at the ready.

He finds scraps of recently devoured food and -- in the closet -- evidence of a makeshift bed. Has Sophia been here?

Back at the farm, the survivors haul the zombie out of the well, but the squirming thing gets stuck on the lip. They HEAVE together. And the zombie SPLITS in half. Its lower body plunges into the water below in a cascade of blood and guts. Its upper half SNARLS and SPITS on the ground above until T-Dog BASHES it in the face with a blunt object.

The well will have to be sealed off, after all.Back to the woods, where Shane schools Andrea on the finer points of using a firearm. Basically, shooting a moving, 'living' target is a whole lot more difficult than hitting a stationary target during training. 'There ain't nothing easy about taking a man's life,' says Shane, who is clearly thinking of Otis. 'But when you get it done, you have to forget it. I guess I haven't quite got that last part down yet.'

Glenn and Maggie, meanwhile, ride into town on horseback. Maggie is quiet -- she is still quite upset over seeing the bloated zombie split and half and then beaten. Glenn explains that this group is rather 'numb' to such grisly conclusions.

They reach the pharmacy and Glenn reaches into his pocket to reveal the private note from Lori. He finds the feminine hygeine section and picks out what he needs to get. Maggie then approaches Glenn, who scrambles to hide what he's gotten and accidently picks up a pack of condoms instead. Maggie takes that as a sign and tells Glenn that she wants to have sex.

Glenn is shocked. 'You're not the only one who is lonely,' she whispers. They are soon stripped to the waist and begin making out in the middle of the ransacked pharmacy.Later, Rick deliberately puts Hershel on the spot, asking the patriarch to allow his band of ragged survivors to stay on the farm. Rick explains that he is only concerned with the well being of his boy. 'There are aspects to this, things that I can't and won't discuss, but if you and your people respect my rules.

No promises, but I will consider it,' Hershel says. Rick doesn't ask about the things Hershel 'won't discuss' and thanks the old man for meeting him halfway. Riding back to the farm, Maggie rather coldly tells Glenn that their dalliance was a 'one time thing.' Glenn appears hurt, but is quickly intercepted by Lori.

Glenn hands over the package he picked up for her and doesn't say a word. Nor does Lori.CUT to Daryl, who returns from searching for Sophia with a Cherokee Rose that he gives to Carol. Daryl explains that the Native Americans believed that the rose bloomed as a way to comfort mothers grieving the loss of their children along the Trail of Tears. 'I'm not fool enough to believe that there are any flowers blooming for my brother, but I believe that this one bloomed for your little girl,' he explains. A grateful Carol cries.

Back the farm, Carl awakens from a deep sleep to find his father sitting next to the bed. Rick apologizes for not telling Carl that Sophia is missing. 'I didn't mean to lie, I just didn't want to worry you,' Rick says. Carl understands. Rick then gives his son his sheriff's hat. 'I love you,' he says.Later, Lori watches as her husband removes his badge and shirt after another long, long day. Is there something that she wants to tell him?

Instead, she wanders outside to an isolated spot and pulls out the package Glenn retreived for her from the pharmacy. It's a pregnancy test. Lori crouches down, urinates on it, and holds it up to see the results. It's positive. Terrified at what this will mean, Lori begins to cry. Save the Last One Sophia is still missing. Sophia is still missing.

Carl is still ailing. It's not a good time to be a kid during the zombie apocalypse. CUT to Shane and Otis, who are running through the hallways of a school overrun by walkers. Rick, meanwhile, assures Lori that Shane will return with what Hershel needs to operate on Carl.

Lori doesn't appear completely convinced.CUT to Daryl, who is camped out with Andrea and a weeping Carol. Feeling sympathetic, Daryl offers to take a walk in the middle of the night to search for Sophia. Andrea volunteers to come along. 'Are you sure this is the best idea?' Naturally, everybody ignores the voice of reason.

Back at the school, Otis and Shane are trapped at the top of the gymnasium bleachers. Otis makes a run for it in one direction while Shane runs toward a window in the opposite direction. He SHOOTS a zombie in the face at point blank range before falling multiple stories to the ground. He limps away.Sometime later, T-Dog and Glenn show up at the Hershel farm house and meet Maggie on the front porch. Glenn appears love struck.

CUT to Daryl, who explains to Andrea that he once disappeared into the woods for nine days as a child. The point: Sophia might just be OK.

Andrea isn't convinced. Back at the farm, Hershel announces that they might have to operate on Carl without the respirator as the boy is fading fast. 'Maybe this is how it's supposed to be,' Lori tells her husband, who refuses to believe that Carl is better off dead -- regardless of the current world order. Lori brings up Jackie, who chose death. Was Jackie right?

'I don't accept that,' Rick says. 'I can't accept that.' Rick can't explain himself when pressed to explain why Carl would be better off living.Shane, in the meantime, is about to overcome by walkers when a SHOT rings out, exploding some zombie heads. It's Otis -- and he has saved Shane's bacon. Back at the farmhouse, Carl wakes up and is suddenly lucid. 'Where are we?' Lori strokes her boy's head as he talks about the pretty deer -- and then goes completely still.

Lori gasps -- and then the boy undergoes a violent seizure. 'His brain isn't getting enough blood,' Hershel explains. Rick offers his arm for the umpteenth time.Later, Daryl and Andrea sneak through the dark woods and come upon a campsite. They find a walker hanging by his neck from a tree. Poor guy tried to commit suicide before 'turning,' but forgot to shoot himself in the head. Animals have munched on the swinging zombie's legs.

'He made his choice,' Daryl says. 'Let him hang.' Andrea confesses that she doesn't know if she wants to live or if it's 'just a habit.' Daryl then honors her request to show mercy and SHOOTS the walker in the head with an arrow.Back at the farm house, T-Dog gets stitched up by Patricia while Maggie catches Glenn praying.

'This is my first try,' says Glenn with a dispirited laugh. Maggie notes that quite a few prayers have gone unanswered as of late. Dale, meanwhile, has decided to ignore his own good advice and go searching for Andrea and Daryl by himself. He approaches the edge of the highway -- and then stops, uncertain of how to proceed. CUT to Rick, who earnestly tells his wife that Carl's moment of lucidness is a message. 'He talked about the deer, Lori!'

In other words, he focused on life rather than death. Otis and Shane, in the meantime, continue to fight for their lives outside the school. Hurry, boys.CUT to Hershel, who demands that Lori and Rick make a choice. Operate or let Carl slip away? 'We do it,' she says through tears. Carl is put on a table and the good doctor picks up his scalpel.

Right before he is about to make the first incision, Shane ROARS up to the front door in a pickup truck. Rick hugs his friend, who is clearly very, very shaken. He admits to having left the slower Otis behind in order to return as quickly as he did. Back at the road, Dale doesn't have to go out into the woods, after all, as Andrea and Daryl return (without Sophia). 'The choices I made for you were not mine to make,' says Dale, handing over Andrea's gun to her.

'Please, don't make me regret this.' Does Andrea forgive Dale? She is trying. Back at the farm house, Maggie weeps over the apparent loss of Otis -- and the loss of all her family and friends. Glenn comforts her.Later, Hershel emerges onto the front porch and tells Lori and Rick that Carl has undergone surgery -- and appears to have stabilized.

Lori and Rick weep. Their boy is going to be OK. Hershel now must turn his attention to breaking the bad news to Patricia, who nearly falls over when told that Otis did not make it back. Shane can barely watch the scene. He walks into Carl's recovery room to find Lori crying over her boy. The two former lovers look at each other. 'Stay,' Lori pleads.

Shane says nothing. He walks slowly to the shower and examines his wounds.

A tuft of hair has apparently been pulled out of this head. FLASHBACK to Shane and Otis limping away from a wild pack of zombies. Suddenly, Shane uses his last bullet to SHOOT Otis in the leg. Screaming, Otis latches onto Shane and pulls out a chunk of his hair. After a furious struggle, Shane escapes, leaving Otis behind as a distraction to the walkers, who envelop him and tear him to shreds.

It enables Shane to get away and save Carl. But at what cost to Shane?The last we see of Shane, he is staring into a fogged over mirror, having just shaved his head to hide the last evidence of his struggle with Otis. Bloodletting FLASHBACK! Lori confides in a friend. Lori confides in a friend that she and Rick had a big fight the night before. 'Do you still love Rick?'

Asks the friends. Lori clearly isn't entirely sure.

Suddenly, Shane pulls up with bad news: Rick has been hurt. He is in surgery.

Lori tries to keep herself together as the school bell rings. Carl emerges from the school and Lori breaks the news to the boy, who immediately begins to cry.

They embrace.CURRENT DAY! Rick runs, carrying a seemingly lifeless Carl in his arms.

Shane drags the man who shot Carl, an overweight and apologetic fella named Otis. Otis tells Rick to head to a nearby farmhouse and talk to a man named Hershel. 'Hershel will help your boy!' Otis screams.

Rick runs to the farmhouse, explains that Otis shot the boy and watches as Hershel, apparently a doctor, springs into action. Carl has a heartbeat.

Shane soon arrives and wipes blood off his longtime boss and friend. Rick is distraught. Otis is distraught.

Hershel thinks he MIGHT be able to save the boy.The rest of the survivors, meanwhile, continue to 'beat the bush' in an attempt to find Sophia. Lori heard the gunshot earlier -- and worries that Rick and Carl are somehow involved. Back at the road, Dale and T-Dog wait. T-Dog's wound appears to be severely infected.

'You could die from blood poisoning!' 'We need to find you some antibiotics.' They decide to search all the surrounding cars.

Rick, in the meantime, is called inside the farmhouse to give blood. Carl SCREAMS in pain before passing out. Hershel is able to extract a bullet fragment. 'One down, five to go,' Hershel sighs.Later, Rick is frantic. He wants to find Lori so she can be there with Carl. Shane talks his friend down. He then recalls how Lori reacted when Rick was in the hospital with a gunshot wound.

'The strength of that woman. You can't imagine,' Shane tells Rick. Hershel then enters the room and explains that Carl needs full-fledged surgery. Hershel needs equipment that might be at a nearby high school, where a FEMA shelter was set up.

Unfortunately, the place is likely overrun by walkers. Otis, feeling responsible, volunteers to accompany Shane to the high school to retrieve the needed supplies.Back at the road, Dale and T-Dog have struck out. 'No drugs,' Dale says. T-Dog then begins to tell Dale that they've been left behind because they're the 'weak ones.'

T-Dog then comments that Daryl, a 'redneck,' has never forgiven him for Merle's fate. 'If I'm not mistaken, that redneck went out of his way to save your ass,' Dale says. T-Dog suggests that he and Dale strike out on their own. Dale is aghast. He then feels T-Dog's forehead.

The man is BURNING up. 'Where the hell are they?' Wonders a worried Dale.Andrea, meanwhile, is searching the woods for Sophia when she is ATTACKED by a walker. Suddenly, Maggie Hershel rides into the woods on a horse and BASHES the walker in the head.

Andrea is saved. 'There's been an accident,' Maggie tells Lori. 'Carl's been shot!'

Lori jumps onto the horse with Maggie, who gives the rest of the gang directions to the nearby farmhouse before riding away. Back at the farmhouse, Hershel explains to Rick that his wife and stepson were lost to the plague. His daughters, Maggie and Beth, survived. 'These people here, all we've got left is each other,' Hershel says. 'Just hope we can ride it out in peace until there's a cure.' And Hershel believes that there WILL be a cure. 'It's nature correcting itself -- restoring some balance,' he says.

Rick is skeptical. Just then, Maggie and Lori ride up to the farmhouse.

Lori runs inside to her sleeping and sick boy. Mom and dad cry softly together.Later, Rick gives more blood to his son.

Lori then begins asking questions of Hershel, who reveals that he is actually a veterinarian. 'And you've done this surgery before on what? Lori demands. 'You're completely in over your head, aren't you?'

Responds Hershel: 'Ma'am, aren't we all?' Shane and Otis, meanwhile, arrive at the high school. It is indeed crawling with zombies. Back at the road, Daryl and Dale explain that they'll stay with the RV in case Sophia returns.

Dale then explains that T-Dog might not survive if he doesn't get some antibiotics. Daryl casually hands over a bag full of pills -- apparently Merle's old 'stash.' Once again, the redneck comes through.Hershel, meanwhile, explains to Rick and Lori that Carl doesn't have much time. He will need to operate soon if the boy is to have any chance at all. At the high school, Shane and Otis find flares in the back of a cop car and toss them into the parking lot to try to draw the walkers away from the medical trailer. It works -- and the two humans race inside to find the surgical supplies.

They load up their backpacks and exit. To find zombie nation waiting.

Shane and Otis make a run for it -- and barricade themselves inside the school. It appears they have failed in their mission to get the supplies back to Hershel. Have they?To be continued.

What Lies Ahead Atlanta. The city is mostly empty.

The city is mostly empty. Save for the walkers. Rick is on the roof of a building and talking to Morgan via walkie-talkie (Morgan, of course, may or may not actually be listening).

'The CDC was a dead end,' the sheriff says. 'We're moving on.' Rick tells Morgan that Dr. Jenner 'Told me something.he told me.'

And further continues the tease of whatever the Dr. Whispered into Rick's ear before fleeing the CDC. Turns out the gang of survivors is heading to Fort Benning -- 125 miles away. The caravan consists of Daryl on a motorcycle and everybody else in a truck and RV. While Rick and Lori reminisce about a past family road trip to the Grand Canyon, Shane helps Andrea put together her gun, which was a gift from her father. The group soon runs into a snag when the entire road is blocked by cars filled with dead bodies.

The caravan carefully snakes in and out of traffic when the RV suddenly breaks down.So the survivors have to stop -- at least momentarily. They decide to take advantage of the situation by scavenging for food and supplies. 'This is a graveyard,' Lori says. 'I don't know how I feel about this.'

Shane feels great about it, especially after he discovers a truck full of water cooler tanks. He takes an impromptu shower. Rick then notices a walker some miles down the road through the scope on his rifle. Then another.

And another six dozen. Very quickly but quietly, Rick urges the scavenging survivors to hide under the vehicles as the zombies shuffle past within a few very intense moments.Unfortunately, T-Dog cuts his arm on a car, causing it to bleed profusely.

In the meantime, Andrea is inside the RV and quickly hides in restroom as a zombie wanders inside. She tries desperately to remember how to put her gun together. And drops the pieces. Hearing the noise, the zombie bursts into the bathroom. Dale, who's been hiding on the roof of the RV, drops a screwdriver down to Andrea who violently stabs the walker in the eye, killing it.

Outside, a walker approaches T-Dog, who is on the verge of losing consciousness. Suddenly, Daryl appears and silently stabs the monster in the brain stem.

He then pulls a few corpses over himself and T-Dog until the zombies pass by.Seemingly safe, Sophia begins climbing out from under a car. A zombie appears and gives chas.
